Shoremen Start and Finish Strong to Take Sting Out of Yellow Jackets, 15-7

Velasquez Goes 14-For-16 at the X and Scoops Up Game-Best and Personal-High 11 Ground Balls

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College scored the game's first seven goals and used a 7-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to propel itself to a 15-7 win over visiting Randolph-Macon on Friday night on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium in non-conference men's lacrosse action.  The Shoremen improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-3.

How It Happened
- Washington scored all six goals in the first quarter with Ben Dickinson scoring the last goal of the quarter with 2:29 left.
- The Shoremen pushed their lead to 7-0 with 10:13 remaining in the second quarter on a Ewan Temple score.
- Avery Tankersley would get the Yellow Jackets onto the scoreboard with 5:44 remaining in the second quarter and would net their next goal to cut the lead to 7-2 with 1:42 left before halftime.
- Ryan Poston would give WC a six-goal lead into the half with 30 ticks left on a pass from Connor Garrison.
- Randolph-Macon would score the first three goals of the third to trim the lead to 8-5 with 5:46 to go on a Cameron Foti score in transition from Christian Devault.
- That's as close as the guests would get as the hosts would score the next seven goals to put the game away.  WC scored the first two of the run in the third to take a 10-5 lead after three with Luke Brennan scoring from Temple with 14 ticks remaining.  Temple started the run with a goal from Gabe Velasquez five seconds after Foti's score as Velasquez won the face-off and found Temple.
- In the fourth, the Shoremen scored the first five of the quarter with Logan Trombley scoring the last two goals, the final coming with 2:50 to go.
- Randolph-Macon scored the last two goals to provide the final margin.

For The Shoremen (4-1)
- Scoring: Temple (four goals and two assists), Brennan (three goals), Trombley and Brady McFalls (two goals), Garrison and Mac Hale (two assists)
- In Goal: Cole Corrigan (56:57, five goals allowed, 15 saves), Will Charvala (3:03, two goals allowed, three saves)
- TC White and Erik Parry (two caused turnovers)
- Gabe Velasquez went 14-for-16 in face-offs and picked up a game-high and career-best 11 ground balls.  Jack Theriault went 5-for-5 at the X.
- Washington, who held a 61-37 advantage in shots, was 19-for-24 in clears in the contest and was 1-for-5 on the man-up.
- The Shoremen had 19 turnovers, while causing five Randolph-Macon turnovers.
- WC won 21 of the game's 26 face-offs and held a 40-23 advantage in ground balls.

For Randolph-Macon (3-3)
- Scoring: Tankersley (two goals and one assist), Ryan Pritchard (two goals), Jack Smith (two assists)
- In Goal: Owen Gucwa (60:00, 15 goals allowed, eight saves)
- Foti (four ground balls) and Riley Rayne (game-best three caused turnovers)
- The Yellow Jackets were 19-for-24 in clears, 1-for-1 in man-up situations and turned it over 15 times, while notching seven caused turnovers.

Notes
- Velasquez was named the Goose Nation TV Shoreman Player of the Game.
- Temple is now at 93 career points and seven away from 100.
- WC is 4-1 for the first time since 2018.
