Softball Drops Pair to #9 Bethel

Shorewomen take Royals to the brink in game two.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Washington College softball was back in action in Kissimmee, Fla. for a Monday double header against the ninth ranked Bethel Royals. Game one started under cloudy skies that eventually caused a rain delay in the first inning. After dropping game one decisively, the Shorewomen took the Royals down to the last play in game two. Tied up at four, Bethel loaded up the bases with nobody out. A dribbler rolled off the bat of Jordyn Rudolph in between the circle and the plate. Gen Kozub darted to the ball and tried to get the force at home but the throw sailed high to give the Royals a 5-4 win.

Game one: Washington 0 Bethel 8

How it happened
-Washington was unable to get anything going on offense. Freshman pitcher Brynn Balliet kept the Shorewomen in the game all morning before Bethel broke it open in the final two innings.

-The Shorewomen offense was held in check by Bethel's senior ace Kayla Simacek as she shutout Washington for six innings before giving way to the bullpen.

More info from game one to be made available later.

Game Two: Washington 4 Bethel 5

How It Happened
- After being shutout in game one, the Shorewomen started fast in game two. Hannah Solge got things started in the first with a one-out rope to center. Alyssa Vieira got on base after for Lexi Witmer to double in Solge for an early 1-0 lead.

-Bethel responded with a run in both the first and second innings to take a 2-1 lead before Washington answered in the third. Alyssa Vieira drove in one and scored another to give the Shorewomen a 3-2 lead. Bethel tied it back up in the fourth with a run via wild pitch.

-Both teams turned huge lined-drive double plays in the sixth to keep it at four before the fireworks started in the seventh. Solge was standing on third with two out when Chloe Trefz looped a liner over the outstretched third basewoman to bring the junior in to take a 5-4 lead.

-In the home-half of the seventh, Bethel wasted no time. Autumn Earney smacked a single to center and ended up on second with a miss-play in the outfield. Hokanson singled immediately after to tie the game back up at four. The bases were then walked loaded for Rudolph's roller to do the final damage.
