Shorewomen Split Two on Day Three in Florida

Washington picks up second win of the week.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Washington College Shorewomen softball team was back in action down in Florida for the third straight day. The Shorewomen bounced back from a game one defeat to Hamline with a close-win over Kenyon, earning their second win of the week and moving to 2-4 in Kissimmee.

GAME ONE: Washington 0 Hamline 2

The Shorewomen opened up the day with the Hamline Pipers of Minnesota. It was a pitcher's duel all game between M Miller and WAC freshman Brynn Ballliet. Balliet limited the Pipers to only two runs while Montana Miller finished with a complete game shutout. In the biggest danger for Miller all morning, Hamline SS Jenna Rubbelke turned two on a Lexi Witmer liner that ended the Shorewomen's biggest threat.

Game TWO: Washington 3 Kenyon 1

After struggling to get the bats going in game one of the day, Washington leaned on stellar pitching to beat Kenyon in their second game of the day. Lexi Barnhart started the game, going 3.0 inning with a unearned run given up. Gen Kozub came in relief with 4.0 scoreless innings to hang on the slim Shorewomen lead.

The Shorewomen jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second when Sydney Skrzypiec laid down a sacrifice bunt. Gracelyn Goforth advance to third on the play with Chloe Trefz advancing to second. A mistake on the base-paths by the two was bailed out by the Kenyon third basewoman to allow Gofroth to score and Trefz to get to third. Next up, Lilly Wenzel laced a single to left to score Trefz and push the lead to two.

Kenyon scratched a run across in the bottom half of the second and then both pitchers shut down the bats for just about the rest of the ball game. The Shorewomen got some insurance in the sixth when Gofroth brought in Vieira via a sac-fly to center. Goforth then turned an unassisted double-play in the seventh when Kenyon started the final frame with a single. A grounder to second was gobbled up by Hannah Solge to seal the Shorewomen's second win in Florida.
