Shoremen Split Pair with Marywood in Florida

Shoremen get win after yesterday's postponement.

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Washington College baseball team returned to the diamond in Florida for two after a rain-out on Monday. The Shoremen would play two seven innings contests with Marywood. Izaiah Santiago went five strong in a 4-3 win in game one. Game two would go to Marywood 5-3 after they jumped out to a four-run lead early. 

GAME ONE: Washington 4 Marywood 3

How it Happened  
- The Shoremen jumped out in front through an error by the Marywood third basemen. Logan Yi reached on the error and then was knocked in by Andrew Wenger to push the lead to two. 
-Marywood responded with a pair of runs in the third before Yi put the Shoremen on top for good with an RBI-triple in the fourth. Chase Ruppel provided a much-needed insurance run in the fifth with a double to score Erik Risnychok. 
-Santiago gave up just one earned run in five innings of work. Jay Nesson came on in relief in the sixth. He provided two innings of one-run ball to get the save for the Shoremen. 

For the Shoremen 
Batting
- Logan Yi went 2-for-3 with a triple, run and RBI.  
-Erik Risnychok added a hit and run. Chase Ruppel added a double and RBI. Ty Everitt and Andrew Wegner added a hit with Wenger notching an RBI. RJ Fiore added a stolen base as a pinch-runner.  

Pitching
-Santiago picked up the win with 5.0 innings of work surrendering just five hits, two runs (one earned) and two walks while striking out seven. 
Jay Nesson picked up the save, giving up an unearned run on a hit and walk in 2.0 innings.  

For Marywood 
Hitting
- Max Slusser finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.   

Pitching
-Max Ryan picked up the loss, surrendering four runs (one earned) over 5.0 innings with four hits, a walk and eight strikeouts. 
 
GAME TWO: Washington 3 Marywood 5 
 
How it Happened
-After never leading in game one, Marywood jumped out in front with a two-RBI double by James Daly. It would be a lead Marywood never surrendered. Logan Yi got one back in the second with an RBI single to score Elias Philiposian but Marywood added on in the third. 
 
-With Marywood up 5-1, Philiposian drove in two with an RBI single in the fifth to cut the deficit in half. Ultimately, that would do it for the bats as Marywood held on for a 5-3 win. 
 
For the Shoremen
Batting:
-Elias Philiposian finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs, a walk and a run scored. 
-Erik Risnychok, Noah Iseman and Logan Yi each added a hit. Risnychok and Scooter SanFilippo scored while Yi drove in one. Reese Hirsh walked twice with Yi added a walk as well. 
 
Pitching:
Ashton Mehler got the start and the loss, going for just two outs in the first and giving up a pair of runs. John Grill came in relief for 2.1 innings surrendering three runs on no hits and four walks. Titus Tyler (2.0) and Alex Martin through scoreless innings in relief. 
 
For Marywood
Batting: 
James Daly finished 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI. 
 
Pitching:
Joseph Bruno picked up the win going 4.2 innings surrendering three runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks. Tyler Quick picked up the save with a scoreless seventh. 
 
Up Next: 3/17 – Fort Pierce, Fla. – The Shoremen return to the diamond on Friday with a double-header against Franciscan.
