Shoremen Sweep Franciscan in Florida

Bats rack up 22 runs over 14 innings for two wins.

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Washington College baseball team returned to action in Florida after two days off. They took on the Franciscan Barons (OH) for a double header. Anthony Sofran got the start in game one and continued his hot start to the season with six strong innings yielding three earned runs off nine hits and a walk with six strikeouts.  The offense came through with 13 runs to give the Shoremen a big win. In game two, Matt Corda started with four strong innings as the bats put up nine runs in a game two win.

GAME ONE: Washington 13 Franciscan 3

How it Happened  
- The Shoremen jumped out in front with a two-run shot over the right field fence by Noah Iseman. It would turn out to be a lead they would never relinquish.

- The score stood at 4-2 in the fourth when the Shoremen rallied for five to break the game open. Iseman, Logan Yi and Chase Ruppel all clubbed doubles in the inning.   

- Washington continued to add on with four in the sixth. Drew Kinsey and Cole McGee each drove in a run via sac-fly.  

-Thomas Peacock went to the mound in the seventh to provide a 1-2-3 inning and wrap up the win.  

For the Shoremen 
Batting
- Noah Iseman went 2-for-3 with a homer, double, four RBIs and three runs scored.
-Chase Ruppel had a pair of doubles and two RBIs along with a run scored. Logan Yi, Scooter SanFilippo and Cole McGee each added two hits. 
-McGee drove in two along with Yi, Nick Miller, Elias Philiposian and Drew Kinsey each driving in one.   
Pitching
-Sofran picked up his third win of the year with 6.0 innings of three-run ball surrendering nine hits and a walk while striking out six. 
-Thomas Peacock threw a scoreless seventh in relief. 

For the Barons
Hitting
- Kyle Ferrance finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs.   
Pitching
-Jesse Izzo took the lost, surrendering eight runs over 3.1 innings. 
 
GAME TWO: Washington 9 Franciscan 4  
 
How it Happened
 
-The Shoremen scored a run in each of the first three innings as Matt Corda started the contest strong from the mound. After giving up a run in the first, Corda threw three innings of shutout ball before being lifted in the fifth. 
 
-Scooter SanFilippo busted the game open in the top of the fifth with a three-run shot to left. That was a part of a four-run inning as Washington went up 7-1.  
 
-The Barons tacked on three in the bottom half of the fifth to take it to 7-4 but Washington responded with some insurance in the sixth to make it 8-4.
 
- More insurance came in the seventh when Cole McGee drove in Logan Yi to push the lead to 9-4. Xan Wojie came on in the seventh to wrap things up for the win.  
 
For the Shoremen
Batting:
-Scooter SanFilippo drove in three with a homer and run. Erik Risnychok, Logan Yi and Cole McGee each had two hits. Elias Philiposian and Reese Hirsh each had a hit. Philiposian walked three times with Hirsh, Nick Miller and Andrew Wenger each walking twice. 
 
Pitching:
Matt Corda got the start and the win going 4.0 innings surrendering one run on four hits with four strikeouts. Jay Nesson threw 1.2 innings in relief before Xan Wojie finished the game in the seventh. 
 
For the Barons
Batting: 
Wade Stoehr finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
 
Pitching:
Jacob Watson took the loss, giving up seven runs in 4.1 innings of work. 
 
Up Next: 3/18 – Fort Pierce, Fla. – The Shoremen finish up the Florida trip with a double header against Lasell. Game one starts at 10:00 a.m.
