KISSIMMEE, Fla – Shorewomen softball found themesleves down late in both games but rallied at the end in both. In game one, a two-run rally in the seventh saw them take Arcadia to extras before falling 4-3. Game two, the Shorewomen trailed 13-7 in the sixth inning but put up seven to take a one-run advantage. A North Park run in the bottom half tied things up before a
Dee Raffaelli RBI-single put them up for good in a 15-14 thriller.
GAME ONE: Washington 3 Arcadia 4 (F/9 innings)
How it happened:
Arcadia took a two-run lead in the second innings off a Megan Klose homer. That score seemed good enough to hold it before a Lexi Witmer two-RBI double brought in
Hannah Solge and
Alyssa Vieira to tie things up at two.
Arcadia scored two in the top of the ninth to take a 4-2 advantage. The Shorewomen got cleats on the base paths in the bottom half but could only scratch across one in a 4-3 defeat.
For the Shorewomen
Batting:
Alyssa Vieira finished 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Hannah Solge added two hits and a run. Lexit Witmer,
Lexi Barnhart,
Chloe Trefz and
Jules Weglarz each added a hit.
Pitching:
Brynn Balliet went six strong innings giving up two earned off seven hits and a walk.
Emmie Meeks took the loss in relief with three innings of work yielding two runs (one earned) from four hits.
For Arcadia
Batting:
Madi Costigan finished 4-for5 with an RBI.
Pitching:
Julie Presto went the distance for the win, throwing 9.0 innings yielding three runs from nine hits with ten strikeouts.
Game Two: Washington 15 North Park 14
How it Happened:
-The Shorewomen jumped out 3-0 in the first with a rally that saw RBIs from Weglarz, Trefz and Raffaelli. North Park responded with five in the bottom, most of the damage coming from an Emil Reczek grand-slam.
-Another rally in the third put North Park up 10-4. The Shorewomen brought three home in the fourth to cut it to 10-7. North Park then added another three in the bottom half to push the lead back up to six.
-Washington plated six in the sixth to take the lead. RBIs from
Jenna Harper,
Lilly Cook and
Alyssa Vieira led the rally. North Park would tie things back up at 14 in the bottom half.
-In the seventh, Dee Rafaellii singled up the middle to score
Maddy Kendall and give the Shorewomen the final lead of the contest in a 15-14 win.
For the Shorewomen
Batting:
Hannah Solge led the attack with a 4-for-5 game scoring three runs. Witmer added three hits and three runs. Rafaelli finished with a pair of hits for three RBIs and also scored once. Harper and Weglarz each drove in two with
Gracelyn Goforth, Vieira and
Lilly Cook each driving in a run.
Pitching:
Brynn Balliet picked up the win in relief, going 1.2 shutout innings. Emmi Meeks also threw 1.2 innings giving up one run.
Gen Kozub threw 3.2 and gave up nine.
For North Park
Batting: Kayla Lorenz finished 4-for5 with three runs and two RBIs. Reczek finished 3-for-5 with five RBIs, most coming from the first-inning grand-slam.
Pitching:
Alli Patrick took the loss throwing 3.0 innings yielding eight runs with five earned.
