Shoremen End Florida Trip with Sweep

Washington pitching allows just four runs over double header.

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Washington College baseball team wrapped up the Florida Spring break trip with a double header against Lasell University. The Shoremen jumped out in front midway through game one in a 9-3 win over the lasers. In game two, Washing posted four runs in the first as they completed the sweep in a 6-1 win. 

GAME ONE: Washington 9 Lasell 3

How it Happened  
- The Shoremen went down 1-0 in the first inning as the lasers scratched one across on a wild pitch by Ashton Mehler. That would be Mehler's last blemish on the afternoon as the Freshman went 6.0 strong giving up the one run. 
-Washington quickly answered with a pair of runs in the second as Noah Iseman and Logan Yi notched RBI singles. In the third, Scooter SanFilippo laced a double to left center to score Drew Kinsey. SanFilippo then stole third and scored on a passed ball to make it 4-1. Ty Everitt then drove in a run with a double.
-Drew Kinsey started the fifth with a solo-homer as the Shoremen began to put the game out of reach on their way to a 9-3 win. 

For the Shoremen 
Batting
-Drew Kinsey finished 3-for-4 with a homer, three runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
-Erik Risnychok, Ty Everitt and Logan Yi each had two hits. Iseman, Elias Philiposian, SanFilippo, Luke Herz and RJ Fiore each added a hit. Everitt drove in a pair of runs. Risnychok, Iseman, SanFilippo and Yi each drove in one as well. 

Pitching
-Mehler picked up his second win of the season with 6.0 innings of one-run ball. He surrendered four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  
-Thomas Peacock threw a scoreless seventh in relief. 

For the Lasers
Hitting
- Tim Callahan finished 3-for-4 with a run and RBI.    

Pitching
-Matt Fletcher took the loss, surrendering five earned on eight hits and two walks in 4.0 innings.  
 
GAME TWO: Washington 6 Lasell 1  
 
How it Happened
 
-After a run created on the basepaths, Cole McGee cranked a three-run shot over the fence to give the Shoremen an early 4-0 lead.
 
-In the second, RJ Fiore and Erik Risnychok hit back-to-back triples to extend the lead to five. The Shoremen then got another run via passed ball in the fourth to go up 6-0. 
 
-Alex Martin got the start for the Shoremen and kept the lasers off the board until a single run in the fourth.  
 
-Washington pitching continued to shut down the Laser bats as they ran out as 6-1 winners.   
 
For the Shoremen
Batting: 
-Drew Kinsey and Erik Risnychok each finished 2-for-4 with Kinsey scoring once and Risnychok driving in one. 
 
- Cole McGee finished 1-for-3 with a 3-run homer. Noah Iseman stole two bases, Risnychok and Kinsey each swiped a bag. 
 
Pitching:
Martin went 4.0 innings of one-run ball on four hits, a walk and two strikeouts. Jay Nesson pitched two scoreless innings in relief. John Grill came on to pitch a scoreless seventh.  
 
For the Lasers
Batting: Christopher Bulk drove in the Laser lone run. 
 
Pitching:
Alex Marsh took the loss, giving up six runs over 4.0 innings of work. 
 
Up Next: 3/22 – at Stockton – This concludes the Shoremen's trip to Florida. They will take on Stockton Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. before playing host to Salisbury on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
