Shoremen Drop Midweek Matchup at Widener

Shoremen strand 15 as game gets away through late Pride Rally.


CHESTER, Pa. - The Washington College baseball team took on the Widener Pride in a contest that was moved up from Friday due to weather. After a tight contest for over seven innings, the Pride blew the game open with a nine-run eighth. Widener shut-out the Shoremen offense and came away with an 11-0 home win.

How it Happened  
- Anthony Sofran stared the game on the mound for the Shoremen and continued his good start to the campaign. Sofran worked around four hits and three walks to limit the Pride to three earned runs over 7+ innings of work. 
-The Shoremen offense mustered up nine hits but could not get the big one, leaving 15 runners stranded on the bases. 
- Widener held a 2-0 lead into the bottom half of the eight before sending nine across the plate with a late-game rally. That ultimately put the game well out of reach and the Pride took the win. 

For the Shoremen (2-4)
Batting
- Noah Iseman finished 2-for5. 
-Elias Philiposian finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base. 
-Chase Ruppel added a double, Drew Kinsey, Logan Yi, Ty Everitt and Nick Miller all added a hit with Everitt swiping his first stolen base of the season. 

 Pitching
-Anthony Sofran picked the loss, surrendering three earned runs on four hits and pair walks while striking out five.  

For Widener (2-4)
Hitting
- Aaron Nuble finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs, a walk and stolen base.
Pitching
-Sean Curran picked up the win with six shutout innings while surrendering seven hits and a pair of walks. 
Up Next
3/4 – The Shoremen get to take the field at Athey Park for the first time of the season with a double header against St. Mary's. Game one begins at Noon with game two to follow after.
