CHESTERTOWN, Md. -Â The Washington College baseball team played host to St. Mary's (Md.) for a double header to open up Athey Park for the 2023 season. The Shoremen got six strong innings from
Izaiah Santiago and a strong offensive showing to run out with a 10-2 win.Â

Izaiah Santiago stared the game on the mound for the Shoremen and earned his first win of the season. Santiago worked six strong innings surrendering only one run. Â
-The Shoremen offense racked up 14 hits and ten runs.
Noah Iseman and
Drew Kinsey each hit solo home runs as the Shoremen added on throughout the game.Â

Erik Risnychok finished 2-for-3 with two walks, an RBI, stolen base and run scored.Â

Ashton Mehler got his second start of the season for the Shoremen in game two. Mehler through three strong innings before getting pulled in the fourth after giving up some base runners and a run. St. Mary's would later take a lead before a Shoremen rally tied it up with the sunlight fading in Athey. A three-run rally by the Seahawks in the seventh made the difference as the game was called after seven due to darkness.Â

-Mehler got the start gave up one run in 3.1 innings of work. After coming in relief to shut down the Seahawks in the fourth,
Jay Nesson gave up three earned runs in the fifth as the Seahawks went up 5-3.Â

Noah Iseman deliever a big hit in the sixth. Down two with runners on second and third, the lefty pulled a grounder that go through the first and second basemen to score both runners easily and tied the game at five.Â

-Heading into the seventh, it was clear the sunlight was going to be an issue soon. A long, three-run rally by the Seahawks not only put them out front but gave the Shoremen only enough time for one more trip to the plate. J Sandridge was able to pitch around some trouble to allow St. Mary's to hang on and salvage a split.Â
