Shorewomen Drop Pair to Catholic

Catholic comeback in game two seals sweep.

 
CHESTERTOWN, Md.– The Washington College softball team returned from the Spring Break trip down in Florida to play host to Catholic in a double header in Chestertown. The Shorewomen offense was unable to get much going in game one until late as Catholic held on to a big lead for a 10-6 win. In game two, Washington took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth through a Hannah Solge RBI. Catholic responded in the sixth, tying the game with a two-out hit by Oliva Stinchcom. Katie Scolese doubled in two in the seventh as Catholic came from behind to win 3-1.  
 
GAME ONE: Washington 6 Catholic 10
 
How it happened:
 
Catholic jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first after a K Scolese two-run homer. The lead would get to as big a 7-0 in the fourth. 
 
The Shorewomen plated three in the sixth to make things interesting. Catholic would respond with three more in the seventh to push the lead back up to seven. 
 
For the Shorewomen
Batting: 

Jules Weglarz finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. 
 
Alyssa Vieira, Lexie Witmer, Gracelyn Goforth and Chloe Trefz each notched two hits with Goforth and Trefz both having two RBIs. Lexi Barnhart and Dee Raffaelli each added a hit. 
 
Pitching:
Lexi Barnhart took the loss after surrendering seven runs in 3.0 innings on three hits and four walks.
Gen Kozub pitched 4.0 in relief, surrendering three runs on four hits. 
 
For Catholic
Batting:
Solese finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored.
 
Pitching:
Katie Hurd took the win, going four shutout innings on just four hits. 
 
GAME TWO: Washington 1 Catholic 3 
 
 How it happened: 
 
-Game two would be a pitchers duel between Aubrynn Arcement and Brynn Balliet. Neither team scored until a Hannah Solge single in the fifth.
 
-Balliet went 6.0 strong innings, giving up a tying run in the sixth. Oliva Stinchcom came in relief for the Cardinals for 2.1 perfect innings. 
 
-Emmie Meeks took the loss, giving up a pair of runs in the seventh as the Cards completed the comeback win.
 
 For the Cardinals
 

Batting: 
-Scolese finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs. 
 
Pitching: 
Arcement went 4.2 innings giving up one run off three hits.
Stinchcom took the win going 2.1 perfect innings in relief. 
 
For the Shorewomen
 
Batting:
Hannah Solge finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.
 
 Pitching:
Brynn Balliet gave up one run off seven hits in 6.0 innings.
Emmie Meeks picked up the loss, surrendering two runs in one innings pitched.  

 Up Next – 3/ 25 – The Shorewomen take on Mary Washington in a double header. Game one begins at 1:00 p.m.
