Shoremen Fall at #2 Salisbury

Shoremen drop midweek matchup with the Seagulls

SALISBURY, Md. - The Washington College baseball team traveled down the shore to Salisbury for a midweek contest against the second-ranked Seagulls. After taking an early lead in the second, the Shoremen were unable to keep the Seagulls offense off the board. Salisbury responded to trailing 1-0 with four of their own as they never trailed the rest of the way in a 19-3 win.

How it Happened  
- Matt Corda got the start on the mound for the Shoremen. After working a scoreless first inning, the freshman ran into trouble in the second. The Seagulls picked up three hits and a walk off of Corda to take a 4-1 lead. 
-The Shoremen tacked on a run in the fourth on the basepaths. With runners on first and third, the Shoremen sent Elias Philiposian to steal second, forcing an errant throw by the Seagull catcher. That allowed Kenyon Mickie to score easily. 
-Salisbury continued to add on for the rest of the game to build a big lead on their way to the win. 

For the Shoremen 
Batting
- Scooter SanFilippo finished 2-for-3 with a run, RBI and walk.
-Elias Philiposian finished 1-for-3 with a two stolen bases.  
-Chase Ruppel, Drew Kinsey and Kenyon Mickie each added hits, Noah Iseman and Mickie each added a run. 
Pitching
-Corda got the start, working 1.1 innings, allowing four runs, three earned off three hits and a walk.  
-John Grill (2.1 innings) and Xan Wojie (1.0 inning) each provide scoreless frame from the bullpen.  

For Salisbury 
Hitting
- Zach Gessaman went 2-for-4 with a homer, five RBIs and a pair of runs.  
Pitching
-Benji Thalheimer picked up the win, going 6.0 innings surrendering one earned run on five hits, four walks and seven strikeouts.   
 
Up Next: 3/12 vs. Kenyon (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) The Shoremen head to Fort Pierce, Fla. for their Spring Break trip which will see them play eight games over the next week. It begins on Sunday against Kenyon.
