Falcons Edge Shorewomen in Eight, 6-4

Second Game Called After Four Due to Darkness and Will Not Be Completed

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Messiah scored the final four runs of the game to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 6-4 win over host Washington College in eight innings in game one of a non-conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Washington College Softball Field.  In game two, the Falcons led the Shorewomen 15-9 before the game was stopped due to darkness after four innings, one inning shy of becoming official and will not be completed.  The Falcons are now 6-5 on the season, while the Shorewomen drop to 2-3.

How It Happened
- Washington took the lead in the bottom of the third inning when Lexie Witmer socked a one-out double to center to score both Jules Weglarz and Hannah Solge to make it 2-0.
- The Falcons got one back in the top of the fourth when McKenzie Shannon doubled to left to plate Alexa Burger.
- In the top of the fifth, Messiah would level the game at 2-2 on a one-out RBI groundout off the bat of Brielle Rosario that chased in Rebekah Wiley.
- The Shorewomen would re-take the lead, 4-2, with a two-run last of the fifth.  Alyssa Vieira hit a double up the middle to score Solge with nobody out to make it 3-2 and with one away, Vieira came home on a run scoring groundout off the stick of Gracelyn Goforth.
- It was a short lived lead as with one away in the top of the sixth, Elianna Litwin tripled down the right field line to drive in both Shannon and Hannah Dyer with one out.
- The game would go to extra innings and in the top half of the eighth, Joy Hedrick was placed on second base as a pinch runner for Maddie Williams.  With one out. Hedrick scored on a fielder's choice on a ball hit by Dyer.  After Dyer stole second base, she scored on a single to center by Litwin.
- In the last of the eighth, Washington got the winning run to the dish with two outs in Dee Raffaelli.  Falcons' pitcher would get Raffaelli to strike out swinging to end the game.

For The Shorewomen (2-3)
- Hitting: Witmer (two RBI), Solge (two runs)
- Pitching: Emmie Meeks (loss 0-1, 1 2/3 innings, one hit, two runs, zero earned, zero walks, one strikeout), Brynn Balliet (6 1/3 innings, five hits, four walks, three earned, two walks, four strikeouts)
- Washington committed one error in game one, leading to one Messiah run.
- The Shorewomen had four hits, drew one walk and had two get on via hit by pitch in the game, while leaving eight on base.

For Messiah (6-5)
- Hitting: Litwin (2-for-4, three RBI), Dyer (two runs)
- Pitching: Lydia Collison (win 3-1, 7 2/3 innings, four hits, four runs, one earned, one walk, three strikeouts), Megan Chinnadurai (save 1, 1/3 inning, one strikeout)
- Messiah had three errors in the opener, leading to three unearned runs.
- The Falcons had six hits and drew two walks, while stranding five on base.

Notes
- Witmer was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the Game.
- Today was the first ever meeting between the Falcons and Shorewomen in softball.
