Haverford 11 Washington College 2

How It Happened
  • The afternoon contest opened with Haverford's Daniel Rosman being hit by pitch, followed up with two walks as Harry Genth and Jonny Flieder took their bases.
  • The scoreboard lit up for the Fords when Jack Wallis hit two-RBI single through the right side, allowing Rosman and Genth to score as Flieder held at third.
  • Haverford continued their strong start in the first inning when Zach Landry bunted for an RBI single, scoring Flieder for a 3-0 lead.
  • In the home half of the first the Shoremen appeared to have an answer as Noah Iseman hit a ground-rule double to dead-center before being scored by Logan Yi as his RBI double made it 3-1.
  • While being close through the first third of the game it was not until the fourth inning when the Fords solidified their lead. Chuck Norton had a leadoff single followed by Genth being hit by pitch to occupy first and second. Flieder then doubled to right center to bring the pair home to make it 5-1. Wallis followed it up with a single through the left side which scored Flieder to give the Fords a 6-1 lead. Having advanced to second on a wild pitch, Wallis was able to score after Kyle Beach hit a ground-rule double for a 7-1 lead.
  • The Shoremen showed life in the bottom of the seventh being down 8-1 after RJ Fiore hit a hard hit double off third base, with him eventually advancing to third base during the next hitter following a wild pitch. This allowed Reese Hirsh to fly out to Centerfield for the sacrifice fly as Fiore came across to make it 8-2 Haverford.
  • No comeback ever came into existence for the Shoremen as Haverford scored a run in the eighth and two in the ninth to top Washington 11-2.
