Shorewomen Swept at Gettysburg

Winning streak ends as Washington drops two tight games to Bullets.

GETTYSBURG, Pa.– Washington College softball travelled to Gettysburg for a key double header in the Centennial Conference race. The Shorewomen rallied late in game one but came up short in a 6-5 road loss. In game two, the Shorewomen held a 7-2 lead but the Bullets rallied with nine runs over their next three innings to take game two 11-8 and sweep the day. 
 
GAME ONE: Washington 5 Gettysburg 6
 
How it happened:
 
-The Shorewomen jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first through a Chloe Trefz RBI single. Gettysburg came right back to tie the game in the bottom of the first before taking a 4-1 lead in the second. Maddy Kendall and Dee Raffaelli each drove in one to make it a 4-3 game in the third. 
 
-Gettysburg extended their lead in the fourth with a solo homer and RBI single to make it 6-3. The Shorewomen rallied in the seventh with a pair of runs but could not get the big hit to tie the game. 
 
For Washington
Batting:
-Dee Rafaelli finished 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Chloe Trefz finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Alyssa Vieira, Hannah Solge, Lexi Barnhart, Maddy Kendall, and Jules Weglarz each added a hit.  
 
Pitching:
-Brynn Balliet took the loss, surrendering five earned runs from 9 hits and two walks in 4.0 innings. Gen Kozub threw 2.0 innings of scoreless relief.
 
For Gettysburg
Batting:
-Lauren O'Leary finished 1-for-2 with a walk and solo homer. 
 
Pitching:
-Paige Forry took the win with four earned runs in 7.0 innings pitched. 
 
GAME TWO: Washington 8 Gettysburg 11 
 
How it happened: 
-Gettysburg struck first with a run in the bottom of the first. The Shorewomen responded six run third inning with RBIs from Lexie Witmer, Maddy Kendall, Jules Weglarz and Ayssa Vieira.  After Gettysburg made it 6-2, Witmer drove in another with a double to make it 7-2 in the fourth. 
 
-Gettysburg made it a 7-6 game with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Washington then got a run on a Julez Weglarz RBI to extend the lead to two. Gettysburg would take the lead for good with a three-run bottom half of the fifth. 
 
-The Bullets added on in the sixth and took game two 11-8. 
 
For the Bullets 
Batting: 
- Allegra DeCandia finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs. 
 
Pitching: 
- Audrey Wright was the second of three Gettysburg pitchers, she took the win with 2.1 innings of work. 
 
For the Shorewomen
 Batting:
-Alyssa Vieira finished 3-for-5 with an RBI. Hannah Solge, Lexi Barnhart, Lexie Witmer and Chloe Trefz each finished with two hits. Jules Weglarz added a hit and three RBIs. Lilly Cook added a hit and run scored while Maddy Kendall added a hit and RBI. Witmer drove in an additional two runs. 
 
 Pitching:
-Gen Kozub took the loss, surrendering one earned run in 1.2 innings of relief. 

Up Next – 4/29 – vs. Dickinson (DH) – 1:00 p.m. The Shorewomen close out the regular season with a Senior day double header against the Devils.
