Shorewomen Split with Dickinson on Senior Day

Split in the finale means these two will meet again at Dickinson in the Centennial Tournament opener.

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Washington College softball played host to Dickinson for Senior Day in Chestertown with Centennial Conference Tournament seeds at stake. Dickinson would take game one to guarantee a seeding no lower than 2. The Devils Bats built a 4-2 lead before added five in the seventh to put the game away. In game two, Washington came from 2-0 down to earn a walk-off win. Today's split means these two will meet again next week at Dickinson in the opening round of the Centennial Conference Tournament. 
 
GAME ONE: Washington 2 Dickinson 9
 
How it happened:
 
- Washington took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when senior Lexie Witmer drove in fellow senior Alyssa Vieira. Dickinson would respond with two in the second to take a 2-1 lead. In the fifth, Eden Blanker homered to right to push the Devils lead to 4-1. 
 
-Washington got one back in the fifth off a Gracelyn Goforth solo-homer. Dickinson would add insurance in the seventh after chasing Shorewomen starter Brynn Balliet. They scored five in the inning to put the game away. 
 
For Washington
Batting:
-Lexie Witmer and Alyssa Vieira both notched two hits with Vieira scoring once and Witmer driving in one. Gracelyn Goforth finished 1-for-3 with the solo-homer. 
 
-Hannah Solge, Jules Weglarz and Lexi Barnhart each added a hit. 
 
Pitching:
-Brynn Balliet took the loss, surrendering six earned runs from eight hits and two walks in 6.0 innings.  
 
For Dickinson 
Batting:
-Eden Blanker finished 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs scored and four RBIs. 
 
Pitching:
-Riley Kuehn took the win with just two runs surrendered from eight hits in 7.0 innings. 
 
GAME TWO: Washington 3 Dickinson 2  
 
How it happened: 
 
- Dickinson struck first with a two-run homer from Eden Blanker, the freshman's second of the day. Washington pulled one back in the bottom of the first through a bases loaded walk by Chloe Trefz. 
 
-The Shorewomen tied it up in the fifth through a Gracelyn Goforth RBI single to bring in Hannah Solge. 
 
-In the bottom of the seventh, the Shorewomen put runners on first and second with two down, Lilly Cook hit a liner right the Dickinson shortstop who was unable to hang on. The ball leaked into left field and allowed Alyssa Vieira to score the winning run. 
 
For the Devils
Batting: 
- Eden Blanker finished 2-for-4 with a two-run homer. 
 
Pitching: 
- Kaylie Renner picked up the loss in relief. Renner gave up one unearned run from two hits in 1.2 innings. 
 
For the Shorewomen
 
Batting:
- Alyssa Vieira finished 2-for-4 and scored twice. Hannah Solge added two hits and a run. Goforth added a hit and RBI. Lexie Witmer added a hit and Chloe Trefz notched an RBI. 
 
Pitching:
- Lexi Barnhart picked up the win with a complete game effort. Barnhart allowed two runs form six hits and a pair of walks. 

Notes- The GooseNationTV player of the game for game one was Lexie Witmer. Alyssa Vieira was named player of the game for game two. 
 
Up Next – at Dickinson – Thursday, 5/4. The Shorewomen will be seeded third in the Centennial Conference Tournament and will take on the Red Devils in the opening round.
