CHESTERTOWN, Md.– Washington College baseball celebrated senior day today at Athey Park with a double header against the Bullets of Gettysburg. Game one was a back-and-forth contest that saw the Shoremen rally with a six run eighth inning to take the game 9-6. Game two was a pitchers duel that saw the Bullets strike first with a run in the fifth. They added one in the sixth to make it 2-0. The Shoremen cut it to one in the sixth as both teams traded runs through the rest of the game. Down 4-3 with the bases loaded in the ninth, Washington was unable to get the tying run across.Â

How it happened:
-Senior pitcher
Andrew Lerario got the start for the Shoremen and worked a scoreless first inning, surrendering just one hit. Lefty
Izaiah Santiago came on in the second. Gettysburg took a 1-0 lead with a sac-fly in the second. Washington quickly answered in the bottom half when
Scooter SanFilippo executed a squeeze play to score
Logan Yi.Â
-The Shoremen took a 3-1 lead in the fourth through a
Luke Herz sac-fly and SanFilippo RBI single. Gettysburg chipped away tied the game in the seventh before taking a 5-3 lead in the eighth.Â
-Washington trailed by two with one down in the eighth when they got to the Bullets bullpen.
Cole McGee drove in one with an RBI single to make it 5-4. With the bases loaded, SanFilippo delievered a sac-fly to tie the game at five. With two down,
Elias Philiposian ripped a double down the left field line, scoring two and giving the Shoremen a 7-5 lead.
Ty Everitt followed with a double to right before
Nick Miller tripled to bring him across for a 9-5 lead.Â

Anthony Sofran came on in the ninth and was able to limit the damage after Gettysburg loaded the bases for a 9-6 win. Â

Alex Martin took the win, throwing the eighth, surrendering two runs from two hits and a walk. Santiago worked six innings, giving up three earned runs from four hits and four walks. Sofran pitched the ninth and gave up one run from three hits.  Â

-Preston Toothman finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.Â
Pitching:
-Connor Sikora took the loss, giving up six earned runs in 0.2 innings of work.Â

How it Happened:
- Both teams starting pitchers cruised through the first four innings. Gettysburg came closest but
Ty Everitt gunned down the Bullets runner at the plate to end the third inning.

-Gettysburg struck first with a run in the fifth. The Bullets added one in the sixth and would have made it 3-0 had it not been for Everitt throwing out his second runner at the plate on the day.Â

-The Shoremen were finally able to get on the board when
Luke Herz doubled in
Noah Iseman to make it a 2-1 ballgame in the sixth. The Bullets canceled it out with a solo-homer by Matt Nichols in the seventh to make it 3-1. Washington made it a 3-2 game after
Elias Philiposian double, advanced to third on a
Ty Everitt sacrifice and then scored via wild pitch.Â

Jay Nesson came out to start the eighth inning for the Shoremen. The senior worked around a walk and error to pitch a scoreless inning. The Bullets would add some insurance in the ninth through a Shoremen error to make it 4-2.Â
