Shorewomen Capture MARC Championship to Earn Ticket to NCAA Championship

Team Edges Stockton by a Single Point to Win Ninth Crown in Past 10 Championships

LORTON, Va. – The Washington College women's rowing team claimed its ninth Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championship since 2013 on Sunday afternoon on the Occoquan Reservoir.  The Shorewomen won the championship with 36 points, one better than Stockton that had 35.

With the championship, the Shorewomen will return to the NCAA Division III Championship as the conference's automatic qualifier on May 26-27 at the Camden County Boathouse in Pennsauken, New Jersey.  It will be the teams ninth trip as a team as the Shorewomen made it from 2013-19 and 2021.  The selection show will be on NCAA.com on May 16 at 4:30 p.m.

"I'm so incredibly proud of this team - they have worked hard this year and improved with each racing opportunity they had," said head coach Kari Hughes.  "Today was a team effort - every athlete contributed to win this championship.  We came in ranked third and when the 2V8 won its race, it gave us a path to the Championship that the 1V8 capitalized on."
Hughes added, "I am especially happy for our seniors who have had such a tumultuous four years. Their leadership, tenacity and grit is our foundation."
