Men's Soccer Takes down Salisbury 3-1

Shoremen score two first half goals in road win.

SALISBURY, Md. – Washington College men's soccer picked up the first win of the 2023 campaign by taking down Salisbury on the road. First half goals by Katim Njie (Junior/Montgomery Village, Md.) and Chris Comber (Senior/Chester Springs, Pa.) provided the Shoremen with a 2-0 halftime lead. Salisbury pulled one back after the break through Alex Floyd but Tshazi Kamau (Freshman/Nairobi, Kenya)found the net in the 66th minute to restore the two-goal lead. The Shoremen were able to hold out from there for a 3-1 road victory.

How It Happened
- Katim Njie netted his second goal of the campaign with a strike in the 11th minute of the match. Just 20 minutes later Chris Comber scored a goal assisted by Shepherd Koffie (Sophomore/Gaithersburg, Md.) and Cole Gifford (Senior/Delran, N.J.). The defense kept the Seagulls off the score sheet as Washington took a 2-0 advantage into halftime. 
 
- Salisbury pulled a goal by just 12 minutes into the second half as Alex Floyd scored from the penalty spot to make it a 2-1 score line. Just under ten minutes later, the Shoremen restored the two-goal lead with a finish by Tshazi Kamau that was set up Njie. 
 
- Salisbury pushed for another goal to get back into the match but were unable to beat keeper Anthony Pinto and the defense as the Shoremen ran out with a 3-1 win. 
 
For The Shoremen (1-0-4)
- Scoring: Katim Njie, Chris Comber (assisted by Koffie and Gifford), Tshazi Kamau (assisted by Njie)
- Goalkeeper: Anthony Pinto (4 saves, 1 goals allowed, 90:00)
- Washington had 17 shots with 11 on target and took three corner kicks in the contest. Njie was yellow carded. 

For Salisbury (3-1-2)
- Scoring: Alex Floyd (PK)
- Goalkeeper: Skyler McCarthy (8 saves, 3 goal allowed, 90:00)
- The Seagulls took ten shots in the contest with five on target and had seven corners. 

Notes
- Kamau's goal was his first for the Shoremen. 
- The Shoremen are unbeaten against the Seagulls in their last three meetings, winning the last two contests in Salisbury.
