Shorewomen Sweep Seahawks and Gators in Home Opening Wins

Team Takes Care of Both St. Mary’s (Md.) and Notre Dame (Md.) in Three Sets

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Washington College volleyball team won its first two home matches of the season with a pair of victories on Saturday afternoon at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium in non-conference volleyball action.  In the first match of the day, Washington swept visiting St. Mary's (Md.), 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-18) and in the last match of the tri-match, topped roadside Notre Dame (Md.), 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-13).  The Shorewomen are now 3-7 on the season.

How It Happened
- In the first set, WC used a 10-2 run to take a 23-13 lead on a solo block by Chelsea Elliott.  Elliott finished off the nine-point win with a kill from Allison McKechnie
- The Shorewomen won the final four points of the second set to win by four Giselle Kleinbussink tallying a finisher from McKechnie for the clinching point.
- Leading 14-12 in the third and final set, Washington scored six straight points to grab a 20-12 lead on Lindsay Saddic kill from Raegan MoranIzzy Diehl chalked up the final point on a feed from McKechnie on a kill.

For The Shorewomen (2-7)
- Kleinbussink (12 kills, hit .417 and two blocks), McKechnie (20 assists), Moran (14 assists), Logan Kenny (three aces), Victoria Kile (career-best 22 digs)
- Team hit .275 in the contest, notched four rejections and served up nine aces.

For St. Mary's (Md.) (3-8)
- Meghan Stevens (five kills and two aces), Mia Hayes (two aces), Jillian Zukley (four blocks), Laura Panageotou (11 assists), Camilla Galeano (13 digs)
- The Seahawks hit .053 in the contest, had seven blocks and five aces.

How It Happened
- Jordan Fairchild served up three aces in helping Washington win the first eight points of the sets and never looked back.  McKechnie clinched the set with a kill from Kleinbussink as the Shorewomen won the final six points of the set.
- Washington led 6-4 in the second set before rolling off six unanswered points to grab a 12-4 lead on an Angelina Schaber kill from Kile.  A service error by the Gators ended the second set.
- Leading 9-8, a Diehl kill started a 12-2 run with a kill from McKechnie which saw the Shorewomen take a 21-10 lead following a hitting mistake by Notre Dame.  McKechnie and Savannah Collings team up for the set and match clinching point on an assisted block.
 
For The Shorewomen (3-7)

- Elliott (eight kills and career-best five blocks; hit .636), McKechnie (11 assists), Moran (10 assists and 10 digs), Fairchild (personal-best nine aces),  
 - Washington had 12 aces and nine blocks as the team hit .343.

For Notre Dame (Md.) (4-5)
- Emma Mueller and Elora Taala (four kills), Natalie Newton (10 assists and nine digs), Paulina Hernandez (three aces)
- The Gators hit -.060 while notching three aces and a single block.

Notes
- Kleinbussink was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the Match against St. Mary's and Fairchild was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the match versus Notre Dame.
- Moran netted her first career double-double in the win over the Gators.
- In the middle match, St. Mary's edged Notre Dame 3-2 (25-15, 24-26, 17-25, 25-21, 17-15).
