Volleyball Falls at Neumann

Shorewomen fight hard, come up just short in fourth set.

ASTON, Pa. – The Washington College volleyball team traveled north to Neumann University to take on the Knights in a non-conference match. Neumann started fast as they took set one 25-16. Washington responded well to take the second set comfortably 25-20. The final two sets of the match would go back-and-forth but Neumann would edge both to take the win three sets to one.

Washington 1 Neumann 3 (16-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-27)

How it Happened:

-Set one went back-and-forth at the start as the score was knotted up at 12. That's when Neumann made their move and took 11 of the next 15 points to cruise to a set one win. The Shorewomen would respond by jumping out to a 17-10 lead in set two on their way to tying the match.

-Set three of the match started with the Knights taking a 9-4 lead. A Sylvia Johnson Kill sparked a 6-1 run by Washington to tie the set at 10. Both teams traded points until a 17-17 tie until three straight Neumann points forced a Washington timeout. The Knights continued their run out of the timeout to take a five-point lead. The Shorewomen broke serve, scoring the next three points to bring it within two but Neumann was able to stop the run and finished off the set 25-22.

-Washington came out firing in the fourth, taking a 6-0 lead to force an early timeout by the Knights. Washington held a 10-4 lead when Neumann made their run to get back into the set with a 7-2 run. The Shorewomen were able to keep the lead until the Knights scored four of five tie the set at 16, forcing a Washington timeout. Both teams traded points until Washington called their second timeout with the set tied at 22-22. Both teams continued to trade until Neuman won two straight to take the set 27-25.
