Volleyball Wraps up Trip to Ohio

Shorewomen battle but come up short in weekend matchups.

SANDUSKY, Ohio – The Washington College volleyball team wrapped up their stay at the Great Lakes Cross Over on Saturday with a pair of defeats to Manchester University and Shenandoah University. The Shorewomen got four games in on the weekend, they were defeated by Olivet and dropped a five-set thriller Friday night to Alma. On Saturday morning, the Shorewomen fell to Manchester and Shenandoah to start the season 0-4. 
 
Washington 0 Olivet 3 - (13-25, 22-25, 19-25)
 
Washington opened up the weekend against Olivet where they dropped all three sets to the Comets. Lindsay Saddic (Junior/Downington, Pa.) and Giselle Kleinbussink (Sophomore/Gaithersburg, Md.) led the team with five kills in the match. Raegan Moran (Freshman/Goodyear, Ariz.) racked up nine assists and Kleinbussink led the team with 12 digs. 
 
Washington 2 Alma 3 - (22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 13-25, 11-15)
 
The Shorewomen improved play during the night-cap on Friday but could not come up with a run to take the match. Alma cruised to a fourth set win to set up the decisive fifth frame. Washington built a 7-1 leading in the decider but Alma rallied back with a 14-4 run to take the set and match. 
 
Kleinbussink led the Shorewomen in kills against with 14. Angelina Schaber (Senior/Carlsbad, Calif.) finished with 13 while Saddic added 11. Kleinbussink added four aces with Gianna Romano (Sophmore/Dover, Del.) and Moran each notching two. Allison McKechnie (Sophomore/Aliso Viejo, Calif.) led the team with 22 assists. Moran added 19 helpers. Jordan Fairchild (Senior/Litchfield Park, Ariz.) paced the team in digs with 19. 
 
Washington 0 Manchester 3 - (24-26, 15- 25, 18-25)
 
The Shorewoman let an opportunity slip away in the first frame as they held a 21-15 advantage. Manchester rallied to tie the set at 23. A Lindsay Saddic kill put Washington back in the lead but Manchester registered three straight points to take the set. 
 
In the second set, Washington battled back from a 6-0 deficit to take a 9-8 lead. Manchester re-established their advantage before ending the set on a 7-0 run. They would jumped out to a big lead again in set three and hold off the Shorewomen to end the match. 
 
Angelina Schaber paced the Shorewoman in kills with six. Logan Kenny added five. Anna Titter (Freshman/York, Pa.) racked up four aces and McKechnie added another three. Victoria Kile (Sophomore, Atlanta, Ga.) registered 13 digs to lead the team. 
 
Washington 0 Shenandoah 3 - (22-25, 22-25, 23-25)
 
Washington rallied throughout the match against the Hornets but could not breakthrough to take a set. During the first, the Shorewomen rallied from seven down to tie the match at 15 but the Hornets would regroup and take the set by three. 
Set two saw Shenandoah jump out in front 10-4. The Shorewomen rallied with eight straight to take a lead midway through the set. Washington held a 19-16 lead late in the frame but the Hornets rallied with four straight points to jump out in front. They would take five of the next eight points to win the set. 
 
In the third set, Washington flipped the script and jumped out to an 8-1 lead. The Hornets would win nine of the next ten to get back into the set. Shenandoah would jump out to a 21-18 lead before the Shorewomen rallied to take 22-21 lead as they tried to extend the match. The Hornets responded with four of the next five points to take set three and the match. 
 
Chelsea Elliot (Sophomore/Baltimore, Md.) led the team with eight kills, Logan Kenny (Sophomore/Boiling Spring, S.C.) added seven and Angelina Schaber notched five. Gianna Romano registered four aces for the Shorewomen. Allison racked up 24 assists and nine digs. Fairchild would lead the team with ten digs. 
 
Up Next: 9/6 – at Catholic, 7:00pm. The Shorewoman will travel to D.C. to battle Catholic in a non-conference matchup.
