Widener Tops Washington in Four Sets, 3-1

Kile Records Career-Best 23 Digs and Titter Sets Personal-Best in Digs with 10

CHESTER, Pa. – Host Widener won the final two sets to come away with a 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-15, 25-19) win over visiting Washington College on Thursday night at the Schwartz Center.  The Pride improves to 8-6 overall, while the Shorewomen fall to 4-10.

How It Happened
- In the first set, Widener led 21-19 before winning the final four points to take the set by six.  Alex Verchio started the closing spurt for the Pride with a kill and an attack error by the Shorewomen ended it.
- Washington, which led by as many as nine in the second set at 15-6, was holding a 23-22 edge before winning the last two points to win by three.  Giselle Kleinbussink netted a kill to make it 24-22 and Logan Kenny recorded an ace to end the second.   
- Leading 19-14 in the third set, the Pride scored six of the final seven points to win by 10 as Lilyanna Martucci tallied an ace to give Widener the third.
- Trailing by as many as seven in the fourth set, the Shorewomen cut the Pride's lead to 21-19 on an assisted block by Kenny and Allison McKechnie before the home side score the final four points to win set and match.  A hitting error by the visitors was the last point of the night.

For The Shorewomen (4-10)
- Kleinbussink (nine kills), McKechnie (28 assists, 12 digs and two blocks), Victoria Kile (career-best 23 digs to lead all players), Anna Titter (10 digs to set personal-best), Kenny (contest-best three aces and two blocks)
- Washington hit .054 in the contest, totaled five blocks and registered nine aces.

For Widener (8-6)
- Abigail Harrin (match-best 14 kills, hit .407 and four aces), Megan Barthol (33 assists and 15 digs), Liz Barnes, Rachel DiCarlo and Julia Schwab (15 digs), Azira Benjamin and Shannon Toomey (two blocks)
- The Pride hit .155 in the match, while totaling four blocks and seven aces.

Notes
- The two squads were playing for the first time since 2010 this evening.
