Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Ryan Lawson

Men's Soccer Surges Past Ursinus

Two quick second half goals the difference as Shoremen remain unbeaten.

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington College men's soccer played host to the Ursinus Bears in a Centennial Conference matchup. There was nothing doing in the first half for either side as the two teams went into the locker room scoreless. After the break, Washington started brightest and were rewarded with the first goal through Cole Gifford. Just under ten minutes later, the Shoremen went two goals ahead after Chris Comber headed home from a corner. That would be enough to secure the 2-0 win as Washington remains unbeaten on the season.

How It Happened
- The first chance of the afternoon came to Washington's Ben Strine as a bouncing ball fell to him inside the box. Strine connected well with a strike but hit it straight into the keeper's legs. Ursinus then had the next chance of the match as Tommy Mollis got on the end of a longball, his lob went over Shoremen keeper Anthony Pinto and the goal. That would be most of the offense in the opening 45 as the game went 0-0 into halftime.

-The Shoremen started the second on the front foot and were rewarded with a goal by Cole Gifford from a Katim Njie cross. The Shoremen would then double their lead after Chris Comber headed home a Harrison Malone corner.

-Ursinus got their first shot on target in the 72nd minute as Luke Luehrs sent a shot from distance that forced Pinto to make a diving save. Washington was able to manage the game for the remaining minutes of the second half to seal the 2-0 win.
