Pluta Notches Career-High 24 Points in Shorewomen Victory over Fords, 63-45

Washington Earns First Season Sweep of Haverford Since 2010-11

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College got a career-best 24 points from senior forward Serena Pluta (Townsend, Del./St. Mark's) in a 63-45 win over visiting Haverford at Penny J. Fall Gym in a Centennial Conference women's basketball game on Wednesday evening.  The Shorewomen, who swept the Fords for the first time in 13 years, are now 9-10 overall and 6-8 in the Centennial, while the Fords fall to 6-14 and 3-12 respectively.

How It Happened
- Haverford scored eight straight points to take an 8-2 lead with 3:42 to go in the first quarter on a three-point basket by Audrey Jakway.
- The Shorewomen answered with six of the final eight points to cut the lead to 10-8 after one as Karry Kelliher scored on a layup with 13 seconds left to cap the scoring in the stanza.
- In the second quarter, Gia Flamini gave the Fords a 23-21 lead with 2:02 left on a traditional three-point play before Washington scored the final seven points of the second to take a 28-23 lead into halftime.  Pluta put WC ahead for good, 25-23, with 34 seconds to go on a jumper and after a Fords turnover, Abby Meredith beat the buzzer with a triple to give the home side a five-point edge at half.
- Pluta would give WC its first double-digit lead of the night at 11 points, 40-29, with 4:44 left in the third as the Shorewomen outscored the Fords 20-11 in the quarter to lead 48-34 lead heading into the fourth.
- Washington had a 15-11 advantage in the fourth as the lead fluctuated between 12 and 18 points. 

For the Shorewomen (9-10, 6-8 CC)
- Pluta (career-best 24 points, seven rebounds and two steals), Kaitlyn Boggs (10 points and two blocks), Kelliher (eight assists to tie personal-high and two steals)
- Washington shot 38% from the floor (23-for-61), 20% from three-point range (2-for-10) and 83% from the foul line (15-for-18).
- The Shorewomen outscored the Fords in points in the paint, 30-16, points off turnovers, 17-9, second chance points, 7-6, transition points, 2-0, and bench points, 18-6.
- WC turned it over nine times in the game.

For Haverford (6-14, 3-12 CC)
- Siena Emuobor (11 points, seven rebounds and game-high four blocks), Shae Mercer (10 points and four assists), Jakway (10 points), Flamini (four assists)
- The Fords shot 37% from the field (18-for-48), 39% from three-point land (5-for-13) and 57% from the free throw stripe (4-for-7).
- Held a 35-31 edge in rebounds.
- The guests coughed it up 22 times in the contest.

Notes
- Pluta was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the Game.  Her prior career-best was 22 points on January 19, 2022 versus McDaniel.
- Kelliher had eight assists in the season-opening 83-53 win over Notre Dame (Md.) on November 11.
- In 2010-11, the last WC swept Haverford, the Shorewomen won at home 75-58 on December 2, 2010 and won 58-52 on the road on February 2, 2011.
