Esposito Scores from Anson to Move Into Second Place in Team History in Goals

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting #4 Johns Hopkins scored 3:56 into the game to take the lead for the rest of the contest on its way to a 5-1 win over host Washington College in Centennial Conference field hockey action on Wednesday evening on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.  The Blue Jays improved to 12-2 overall and 6-0 in the Centennial, while the Shorewomen dropped to 7-6 and 2-3 respectively.

How It Happened
- The Blue Jays scored the opening goal 3:56 into the first quarter on a shot from the top of the circle on the right side.
- Johns Hopkins would score in transition with 7:21 to go in the second quarter on a shot from the right side off the right post.
- Washington would answer 35 seconds later as long pass from MaryCate Anson found Kat Esposito and Esposito chipped it over the sliding Blue Jays' goalie to cut the lead to 2-1.   
- The road side would restore its two goal lead 1:26 after from about 12 yards out after gathering a loose ball as the visitors took a 3-1 lead into halftime.
- After a scoreless third quarter, the Blue Jays put the game away with two goals in the fourth in a span of 5:35 to provide the final margin.

For The Shorewomen (7-6, 2-3 CC)
- Scorers: Esposito (goal), Anson (assist)
- Goalkeeper: Charlotte Schurman (7 saves, 5 goals allowed, 60:00)
- Jam Hutt-Robles (defensive save)
- Washington had five shots and two penalty corners in the contest.
- Esposito was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the Game.  Esposito moved into sole place in the program's history in career goals with 44 passing Christyl Arrabal '00 who tallied 43 scores.
