Haverford, PA – Shorewomen taken down by The Fords in four sets Wednesday evening. The Shorewomen were led by Allison McKechnie who recorded 13 kills and 20 assists.
Washington College 1 Haverford 3
How It Happened
- Haverford got out to a 4-0 lead to start the first set. A Lyndsey Wessel kill gave the Shorewomen their first earned point of the game, their second on the board. The set was back and forth and The Shorewomen could not capture two points in a row until a service error and a kill by Allison McKechnie brought the score to 9-8 in favor of The Fords. An attack error by The Fords tied the score and gave the ball back to the Shorewomen. The Shorewomen were able to bring the score to 19-15, still trailing, before The Fords made a run to end the set. The Shorewomen were only able to capture three more points and lost the first set 25-18.
- The Shorewomen were never able to capture the lead in set two. Giselle Kleinbussink gave the Shorewomen their first point of the game off a kill from McKechnie, but The Fords took the ball right back on a kill. A kill by Lindsay Saddic from Mary Miller followed by an Alexis Stubbs ace, put the Shorewomen within four early, 8-4. The Fords would answer with a four point run going up 12-4 on The Shorewomen. Washington College was able to come within five off another Saddic kill, but that would be the closest they got to The Fords as they fell in the second set 25-18.
- The third set went in favor of the Shorewomen. They were able to tie the score 3-3 thanks to an ace from Kleinbussink. The Fords earned three points in a row to put them on top 6-3. This did not phase the Shorewomen as they got the ball back thanks to an attack error by The Fords and went on an eight point run to go up 12-6 over Haverford. Haverford came within six as a kill had them trailing, 21-14. They would earn eight more points to make the score 21-18. A Saddic kill put an end to their run and put the Shorewomen up two, 21-19. A kill from McKechnie put the set away for the Shorewomen 25-21.
- The Shorewomen took the lead first for the fourth set thanks to a block by Kleinbussink and Lyndsey Wessel, and an attack error by The Fords. The set was back and forth until The Fords started to capture momentum and went on a three point run to take the lead over The Shorewomen 7-6. They would go on another three point run and gain a two point lead over The Shorewomen, 10-8, thanks to a Shorewomen attack error. A McKechnie kill from Stubbs put The Shorewomen within one, 10-11. Another three point run for The Fords put them up 14-10 as they began to take a bigger lead. The Shorewomen went on a run of their own as Izzy Diehl put a kill down followed by two attack errors by The Fords. The Shorewonen trailed by one, 15-14. Two kills put The Fords up 17-15 before Diehl recorded her second kill of the set to give the ball back to The Shorewomen. The Shorewomen would score four more times, but could not combat the offense that Haverford was dishing out. They fell in the fourth set 25-20.
