Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Shoremen Defeated By Diplomats 2-1

Lancaster, PA– The Washington College Men's Soccer team fought against the #19 ranked Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall, but could not pull of the upset as they fell 2-1.

How It Happened 

  • The first shot of the game for the Shoremen came from Grant Sopa in the 22nd minute. He received the ball from a corner kick by Tshazi Kamau that was kicked out by the Diplomats' defender. Sopa striked the ball in attempt to get it past the defense, but the ball was blocked.  
  • Shepherd Koffie had the closest opportunity to score in the half for the Shoremen. He was able to get a shot off with four Diplomat defenders surrounding him. His low right shot was saved by the Diplomats' goalie.  
  • In the 44th minute of play, Francesco Bertolini took a shot from the top center of the box. His attack went high above of the goal, the score remained 0-0 going into the half.  
  • To open up the half, Washington College was awarded a free kick after being fouled. The free kick allowed for Ethan Watson to get a head on the ball in attempts to reach the back of the net. His shot went just high and left of the goal.  
  • Franklin & Marshall was able to score in the 56th minute putting themselves up 1-0.  
  • With 22 minutes left, the Shoremen were able to work their way down field and went into attack mode. Tyler Davidson crossed the ball to Bertolini who headed the ball right to Watson's feet. Watson was able to get a touch on it and the ball finally saw the back of the net for the Shoremen as they tied it 1-1.  
  • The Diplomats were able to score once more in the 85th minute, putting them up over the Shoremen 2-1, and taking the victory.
