Bailey and Banker Put Names at Top of Shorewomen Swimming Record Book at F&M Invitational

Washington Places 12th out of 13 Teams at Invite

LANCASTER, Pa. – Freshmen Brooke Bailey (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) and Julia Banker (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) became the Washington College women's swimming team all-time fastest swimmers in the 200-yard backstroke and 400-yard individual medley respectively at the 2024 Franklin & Marshall Invitational held Friday morning through Sunday evening at the Kunkel Aquatics Center.  The Shorewomen finished 12th out of 13 teams at the three-day invite with 344 points that consisted of schools from all three NCAA Divisions.

Shorewomen Individuals That Scored Points
- Bailey etched her name into the top spot as the Shorewomen's fastest swimmer in the 200 backstroke in addition to entering the program's top 10 for fastest swimmers in two other categories.  She took 15th in the 200 backstroke on Sunday, touching the pad in 2:14.52, but it was her preliminary time of 2:09.98 that placed her in the top spot at WC in the event.  The freshman was 15th in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.88, but her preliminary time of 59.66 is good for second all-time at WC.  She captured 16th in the 400 individual medley on Saturday with a time of 4:50.95, but her preliminary time of 4:43.22 is good for fifth fastest in team history.  Bailey was 18th in the 200 individual medley on Friday in 2:11.88, which put her sixth all-time at WC in the event.
- Banker became Washington's all-time fastest swimmer in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:38.69 on Saturday, which was good for sixth overall.  On Sunday in the 100 individual medley swam an exhibition time of 1:03.15 to rank second all-time in the program and in the 200 backstroke, she landed 19th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:11.63 and that's good for third fastest in team history.  She also placed 20th in the 200 individual medley on Friday with a time of 2:12.83, good for seventh all-time for the Shorewomen.
- Kylee Smith earned a fourth-place spot on Sunday in the 200 butterfly in 2:10.40 for WC's top finish for an individual swimmer over the invite.  Smith finished seventh in the 100 butterfly on Saturday in 58.12.  She earned a time of 2:13.71 in the 200 individual medley to place 13th on Friday to move her into eighth place all-time at WC in the event.  On Sunday, the senior was 13th in the 100 freestyle (53.95). 
- Kenzie Gorman was ninth in the 100 butterfly on Saturday in 58.26 and is now sixth fastest in team history.  The freshman placed 21st in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.23 and is now seventh all-time at WC in the discipline.  She finished 24th in the 50 freestyle (25.28) and with her preliminary time of 24.90, is now 10th all-time in team history in the event.  
- Lauren Paules earned points for WC with a 15th place finish in the 500 freestyle on Friday night, swimming the event in 5:16.10.  On Saturday, she was 20th in the 200 freestyle in 1:58.08. 

Shorewomen Relays That Scored Points
-On Friday night, the 200-yard freestyle relay foursome of Smith, Gorman, Paules and Bailey finished 13th (1:40.03).
- On Saturday evening, the 800 freestyle relay quartet of Bailey, Paules, Banker and Smith were eighth with a time of 7:58.74 and the 200 medley relay team of Bailey, Anna Burrowes, Smith and Gorman placed 16th with a time of 1:51.18.
- On Sunday night in the 400 freestyle relay, placing 13th was the quartet of Bailey, Gorman, Paules and Smith (3:38.34).

Notes
- Mary Washington won the invite with 1,168 points, 169 points better than second place Mount St. Mary's (999).  Kean was third (978), followed by Bloomsburg who placed fourth (928.5).  Fifth through 13th was Rowan (711.5), Swarthmore (680.5), host Franklin & Marshall (671), Millersville (560), Frostburg State (466), East Stroudsburg (466), Shippensburg (384.5), Washington College (344) and Kutztown (311).
- In individual events, swimmers who finished first through eighth were in the A Final, ninth through 16th in the B Final and 17th through 24th in the C Final.  Swimmers were placed in each final based on preliminary time.  The only events that were an exception to this were the 100 individual medley and 1650 freestyle where there was just a final.
