Eagles Pull Away in Second Half to Notch 14-7 Win over Shoremen

Dickinson Scores Team-Best Three Goals for Washington

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Eastern never trailed and outscored host Washington College 6-1 in the second half to turn an 8-6 halftime lead into a 14-7 win in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.  It was the season opener for both teams.

How It Happened
- Eastern, who netted the game's first two goals, jumped out to a 4-1 lead with 44 seconds left in the first quarter on a man-down goal by Brett Williamson.  Ben Dickinson would get one back for Washington with 11 ticks left to cut the lead to 4-2 after one.
- In the second quarter, the Eagles scored three of the first four goals of the stanza to lead 7-3 with 12:44 to go on a Patrick McLain goal from Nicholas Fanelli.
- The Shoremen would answer with three of the last four scores of the second to trim the lead to 8-6 at halftime.  Dickinson scored on a man-up tally from Cam Carrigan with 2:39 left to reduce the lead to two.
- Connor Bachman would tally both goals in the third quarter for the and Eastern would take a 10-6 advantage into the fourth quarter.
- The Eagles would score the first four of the fourth to take a 14-6 lead with 2:25 left on a Williamson score from Nick Litzenberger before the Shoremen got their lone goal of the second half with 50 ticks left in the game on a Mac Hale tally from Luke Brennan.

For The Shoremen (0-1)
- Scoring: Dickinson (team-high three goals), Cam Carrigan (goal and assist)
- In Goal: Colin Gray (60:00, 14 goals allowed, 11 saves)
- Dickinson (five ground balls), Dylan Kilroy (five ground balls and two caused turnovers) and Aidan Wilson (two caused turnovers)
- Gabe Velasquez went 9-for-19 in face-offs.
- Washington was 13-for-15 in clears in the contest, held a 39-36 edge in ground balls and was 1-for-7 on the man-up.
- The Shoremen had 18 turnovers, while causing nine Eastern turnovers.

For Eastern (1-0)
- Scoring: Stark (goal and four assists), Bachman and Litzenberger (three goals and assist), Williamson (three goals), Nicholas Fanelli (two goals and one assist), Christopher Fanelli (goal and helper)
- In Goal: Ethan Myers (60:00, 16 goals allowed, seven saves)
- Patrick McClain won 14-of-24 face-offs and picked up a game-high 11 ground balls as the Eagles won 15 of the 25 face-offs in the contest. 
- Nathan Gilbert and Dominic Marangoni (two caused turnovers).
- The Eagles were 19-for-24 in clears, 1-for-4 in man-up situations and turned it over 18 times, while notching 10 caused turnovers.
- Eastern held a 40-37 edge in shots.

Notes
- Dickinson was named the Goose Nation TV Shoreman Player of the Game.
- It was the fourth all-time meeting between the two schools and the first to take place at Eastern.  The first meeting in 2014 was a 13-6 Washington win in the NCAA Tournament First Round in Chestertown.  The Eagles won 9-7 in 2017 at WC and last season the Shoremen won the season opener in suburban Philadelphia, 16-12.
