CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Senior outfielder
Hannah Solge (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy) became the 28th player in the history of Washington College softball team to tally 100 career hits with a triple in the first game as host Washington College won and tied in a non-conference softball doubleheader with visiting Marymount on Tuesday afternoon at Washington College Softball Field in the season opener for WC. The Shorewomen topped the Saints in game one, 10-6, before rallying to earn a 2-2 tie in game two that was called after five innings due to darkness. The Shorewomen are now 1-1 on the season, while the Saints are 2-3-1.

How It Happened
- Washington took control early in the bottom of the first inning on a one-out grand slam home run to centerfield off the bat of
Gracelyn Goforth to give the home side a 4-0 lead after one.

Kaylee Atkins led off the top of the second inning with a homer to left to cut the lead to 4-1.
- In the last of the second, Solge would get milestone hit on a triple up the middle that got the centerfield fence allowing
Chloe Trefz to score with nobody out to make it 5-1. Solge would score on wild pitch to give the Shorewomen a 6-1 advantage after two.
- The Saints got two in the top half of the fourth to cut the to 6-3 as
Bailey Demusz singled through the left side to score
Shanyn Bunch for the first run and
Ashley Mannion stole home as part of a double steal with Demusz for the second, both coming with one away.
- Goforth would give the Shorewomen their five-run lead back, 8-3, in the bottom of the fourth on a one-out, two-run double to left-center to chase in
Julia Weglarz and
Mia Mavoides.
- Marymount got three in the top of the fifth to trim the lead to 8-6 courtesy of back-to-back home runs.
Kaylynn Johnson parked a two-run home to left and Atkins connected on her second longball of the game to cut it to two with one out. The Saints would get the tying run to the plate, but could not score any more runs.
- In the bottom of the fifth,
Maddy Kendall scored on a throwing error to make it 9-6 with one out and in the last of the sixth with two outs,
Lilly Cook doubled to center to score
Jenna Harper to complete the scoring.
For The Shorewomen (1-0)
- Hitting: Goforth (3-for-6, six RBI, grand slam), Solge (2-for-4, two runs),
Lexi Barnhart (2-for-4)
- Pitching: Barnhart (win 1-0, 4 2/3 innings, nine hits, six runs, five earned, two walks, two strikeouts),
Gen Kozub (save 1, 2 1/3 innings, one hit, zero runs, three walks, one strikeout)
- Washington committed one error in game one, leading to one Marymount run.
- The Shorewomen had 12 hits, drew two walks and had one get on via hit by pitch in the game, while leaving five on base.
For Marymount (2-3)
- Hitting: Atkins (2-for-4, two home runs), Burch (3-for-4), Demusz (2-for-3), Johnson (two RBI)
- Pitching: Demusz (loss 1-2, 11 hits, eight runs, earned earned, two walks, six strikeouts)
- Marymount had two errors in the opener, leading to two unearned runs.
- The Saints had 10 hits, drew four walks and had one reach by a hit by pitch, while stranding five on base.

- The most recent player to join the 100-hit club for Washington College was
Lexie Witmer who reached it against Mary Washington on March 26, 2023.
- Goforth's six RBI was a career-best for the sophomore.
Marymount 2 Washington College 2 (Game 2 - Five Innings)
How It Happened
- A two-out base hit through the left side by Atkins plated
Leila Hernandez for the first run of the game in the top half of the first inning for the Saints.
- Jaclyn Burch cracked a one-out solo homer to left in the top of the second to give Marymount a 2-0 lead.
- The Shorewomen got one back in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out double to left-center by
Becca Foulk that scored Mavoides. The next hitter, Kendall singled through the right side and Cook tried to score form second, but was thrown out at the plate on a throw from right field by Mannion to keep it 2-1.
- In the last of the fifth with the bases loaded and two away,
Julia Guzman scored on a wild pitch to even it at 2-2. WC had a chance to take the lead, but could not push ahead the go ahead run. The game was called after the fifth due to darkness.
For The Shorewomen (1-0-1)
- Hitting: Foulk (1-for-2, RBI), Mavoides (1-for-2, run), Guzman (run, walk)
- Pitching:
Brynn Balliet (complete game, three hits, two runs, two earned, one walk, three strikeouts)
- The Shorewomen had five hits in the game and drew three walks as they left five on base.
- WC had one error in the field, leading to zero unearned runs.
For Marymount (2-3-1)
- Hitting: Burch (1-for-2, home run), Atkins (1-for-2, RBI), Hernandez (walk, run)
- Pitching: Atkins (3 2/3 innings, two hits, one run, one earned, three walks, zero strikeouts)
- The Saints had three hits and worked out one walk as they left two on base.
- Marymount committed one error in the field, leading to the game-tying run for Washington.
