Shorewomen Never Trail in 56-43 Win over Green Terror

Second Sweep of McDaniel in Three Seasons

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Visiting Washington College never trailed and had three players score in double figures on its way to a 56-43 win over host McDaniel on Thursday night on Rebecca L. Martin Court in Centennial Conference women's basketball action.  The Shorewomen, who swept the season series for the second time in three seasons, improve to 12-10 overall and 9-8 in the Centennial, while the Green Terror falls to 12-10 and 7-10 respectively.

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen jumped out to an 11-4 lead with 6:01 remaining in the first quarter on a Kaitlyn Boggs free throw.  Washington would lead 15-9 after one following a three-pointer at the buzzer by the Green Terror's Kennadi Johnson
- In the second quarter, the Shorewomen would push their lead to as many as 14 points on two occasions, the second time on an Abby Meredith layup with 30 seconds left to make it 29-15.  Lil Overcash hit McDaniel's second buzzer beating triple of the game to end the second to cut the lead to 29-18 at halftime.  WC shot 52% in the first half, compared to just 22% for McDaniel.
- McDaniel outscored Washington, 15-12, in the third to trim the deficit to 41-33 after three.  Teya McConnaha made two from the line with 44 ticks left to close out the scoring as the Green Terror scored the final five points of the stanza.
- McDaniel got the WC lead down to seven with 5:43 to go in the contests, 45-38, on a Raegan Lenz layup.  However the Shorewomen would outscore the home side, 11-5, the rest of the way to put the game away.

For The Shorewomen (12-10, 9-8 CC)
- Meredith (game-high 15 points and four steals), Serena Pluta (14 points and eight rebounds, Peyton Berger (career-best 10 points and four steals), Kaleigh White (two blocks)
- WC shot 45% from the floor (18-for-40), 43% from three-point range (3-for-7) and 77% (17-for-22) from the foul line in the game.
- The Shorewomen turned it over 23 times and held a 37-33 edge on the glass.
- WC outscored McDaniel in bench points, 14-10, points in the paint, 24-8, points off turnovers, 19-8, and transition points, 4-0.

For McDaniel (12-10, 7-10 CC)
- Overcash (10 points and two steals), Lenz (10 points), Peyton Tague (four assists), McConnaha and Ally Mathias (five rebounds), Jordan McLean (two steals)
- The Green Terror shot 19% from the floor (10-for-53), 19% from three-point land (5-for-26) and 75% from the foul stripe (18-for-24).
- McDaniel had 20 turnovers in the game and held an 8-4 edge in second chance points.

Notes
- Washington, who has won five of the past six in the series, recorded its third all-time sweep of McDaniel.  In addition to 2021-22 and this season, the Shorewomen also swept the Green Terror in 2012-13.
