Softball Falls Short In Spring Break Matchups

Kissimmee, FL. – Softball comes up short Monday afternoon as they fall to North Western (MN) 5-9, and Bellhaven 1-4. 

Game 1: North Western (MN) 5  Washington College 9 

How It Happened
  • The Shoremen went up on North Western (MN) 2-0 in the first inning. Hannah Solge was the first run in for Washington thanks to a sacrifice bunt by Gracelyn Goforth. The next at bat, Lexi Barnhart hit a sacrifice fly to secure another run. 
  • North Western was able to put themselves on the board in the top of the second after a single by Gabrielle Kieth allowed Cierra Moore to score. Another single allowed North Western to tie up the game 2-2.
  • It stayed even until the bottom of the third when Solge and Julia Guzman were on base both due to an error. Guzamn stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball to put her into perfect scoring position. Another error by the second baseman allowed Guzman to score and Goforth to steal second. Goforth was able to run home after a Nevaeh Unzueta single to go up 4-2. 
  • The Shoremen would only score once more in the bottom of the sixth as Lilly Cook was batted in thanks to a Chole Trefz sacrifice fly to center field. The Shoremen could not hold off North Western and ended the game down 9-5.

How It Happened
  • The game was scoreless for the first four and a half innings. Singles from Hannah Solge and Lily Barnhart in the first and second inning were left unanswered.
  • The first score of the game came from Bellhaven after Madi Miller's single sent AnnaCaime home. The next at bat, Allie Gordon hammered a three run home run to center field putting Bellhaven up 4-1 to end the inning. 
  • Hannah Solge started off the sixth inning with a double to center, she was batted in off a Jenna Harper single to center field. That would be the last hit the Shorewomen had of the day, falling short to Bellhaven 4-1.
