FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Monmouth College took the lead for the rest of the game with a two-run top of the first inning on its way to a 15-3 win over Washington College at the Lawnwood Baseball Complex on Tuesday in a non-conference baseball game. The Fighting Scots improved to 4-3 on the season, while the Shoremen are now 2-9.  Â

How It Happened
- Reid Stufflebeam gave Monmouth College the lead for good in the top of the first inning with a two-out base hit to right field to score
Clayton Matkovic and
Tyler Houck.
- The Shoremen got on the board in the bottom of the first when
Will Turner socked a one-out home run to left-center to cut the lead to 2-1.top of the third inning with three runs.Â
- In the top half of the second, the Fighting Scots put a four spot to push their lead to 6-1. Matkovic started the run scoring with a triple to right-center to score
Aidan Scott to extend the lead to two. The next hitter with one out, Houck grounded out to shortstop, but it allowed Matkovic to score to make it 4-1.  With two outs,
Nathan Reed tripled down the right field line to score
Daniel Lummus to give Monmouth College a 5-1 lead and Lummus scored on a throwing error to cap the rally.

Reese Hirsh got one back for Washington with a solo homer to right-center with two outs in the bottom half of the second to trim the lead to 6-2.
- Monmouth College broke the game open with a five-run top of the fifth inning that was highlighted by a two-run homer to left-center that scored Reed ahead of him to make it 8-2 with nobody out. The Fighting Scots tacked on three more to lead 11-2 at the game's halfway point.
- The Fighting Scots scored four times in the top of the sixth, while the Shoremen tallied one in the last of the eighth to provide the final margin.
For The Shoremen (2-9)
- Hitting: Turner (2-for-4, home run),
Logan Yi (2-for-3), Hirsh (1-for-3, home run)
- Pitching:
Izaiah Santiago (loss 0-3, four-plus innings, eight hits, eight runs, seven earned, two walks, seven strikeouts)
- Washington had 11 hits, drew two walks and had one reach on hit by pitch while leaving 10 on base.Â
- The Shoremen had one error in the game, leading to one run for the Fighting Scots.
For Monmouth College (4-3)
- Hitting: Lummus (4-for-5, three RBI), Dye (2-for-5, two RBI, two runs, home run), Scott (three runs), Matkovic, Reed and
AJ Freeman (two runs)
- Pitching:
Brandon Coats (win 1-0, five innings, six hits, two runs, two earned, one walk, three strikeouts)
- The Fighting Scots notched 13 hits, drew eight base on balls and had two get on via hit by pitch as they left eight on base.
- Monmouth College committed one error in the game, but did not lead to a Washington run.
Notes
- The two teams were meeting for the third time today. The Shoremen swept a doubleheader in Florida in 2020 by scores of 11-4 and 7-0.
