CLERMONT, Fla. – The Washington College softball team swept a pair of game in its second to last day in Florida on Thursday at Legends Way. In the first game of the day, the Shorewomen edged North Park, 3-2, and in the second game the team topped Rutgers-Newark, 13-1, in a game that ended in five innings due to the eight-run rule. The Shorewomen are 6-7-1 on the season.

How It Happened
- Washington scored twice with one out in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Hannah Solge scored on a bases loaded walk to
Lexi Barnhart and
Mia Mavoides came home on a wild pitch.
- The Vikings would get one back in the bottom of the first when
Eden Baker singled to center to score
Isa Santos.
- In the top of the second,
Becca Foulk scored on a two-out error to make it 3-1.
- North Park trimmed it back to one run, 3-2, on a two-away base hit to right by
Sydney Snyder that chased in
Anna Canales.
- Down to their last out, the Vikings had a runner at third with two outs in the last of the seventh, but WC pitcher
Brynn Balliet struck out
Debbie Dinkel swinging to end the game.
For The Shorewomen (5-7-1)
- Hitting: Barnhart (1-for-3, walk, RBI), Mavoides (1-for-3, run), Solge (1-for-2, run, walk)
- Pitching: Balliet (win 3-2, complete game, eight hits, two runs, two earned, one walk, five strikeouts)
- Washington had four hits and worked out eight walks, while leaving 10 on base.
- The Shorewomen did not commit an error in the contest.
For North Park (2-5)
- Hitting:
Salyssa Garcia (2-for-2), Santos (1-for-3, run), Baker (1-for-3, RBI)
- Pitching: Baker (loss 2-1, complete game, four hits, three runs, two earned, eight walks, five strikeouts)
- The Vikings had eight hits and drew one base on balls while leaving seven stranded.
- North Park had two errors, leading to one Washington run.
Notes
- Washington has won both meetings by a single run, winning 15-14 last spring in Florida.

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen scored five times in the bottom of the second, scoring four unearned runs courtesy of a two-out error by Rutgers-Newark. Mavoides scored the first run of the game on a one-out double by
Neveah Unzueta. With two outs, the inning was prolonged by an error on Solge's at-bat that allowed Unzeuta and
Shannon Rosche to score to make it 3-0.
Julia Guzman scored on a passed ball for the fourth run of the frame and Solge came around to score on a
Lilly Cook two-bagger to cap the five-run outburst.
- Washington blew the game open with an eight-run last of the third.
Jenna Harper had a two-run single to make it 11-0 and
Lilly Wenzel capped the scoring with two-run double to give the Shorewomen a 13-run cushion.
- The Scarlet Raiders got their lone run of the game in the top of the fourth on two-out double to center by
Keelin O'Brien to score
Mariah Rimas-McManus.
For The Shorewomen (6-7-1)
- Hitting: Harper (3-for-3, two RBI, two runs), Cook (2-for-4, two RBI), Mavoides (2-for-2, two runs, RBI), Guzman and Rosche (two runs), Wenzel (2-for-3, two RBI), Unzueta (two RBI)
- Pitching:
Gen Kozub (win 1-1, complete game, five hits, one run, one earned, zero walks, two strikeouts)
- Washington had 14 hits in the game, worked out a single walk and had two get on via hit by pitch as it left five on base.
- The Shorewomen committed zero errors in the game.
For Rutgers-Newark (0-8)
- Hitting: Rimas-McManus (1-for-2, run), O'Brien (1-for-2, RBI)
- Pitching:
Madison Umlauf (loss 0-4, three innings, 14 hits, 13 runs, nine earned, zero walks, one strikeout)
- The Scarlet Raiders had four hits, tallied zero walks, had one get on via hit by pitch while stranding three on base.
- Rutgers-Newark had one error in the game, leading to four WC runs.

- The two teams met for the first time, second overall, since a 7-4 Scarlet Raiders win in 2012.
