CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Sophomore attackman
Cam Carrigan (Jarrettsville, Md./John Carroll) scored the game-winning goal on the man-up with 46 seconds to go from senior attackman
Connor Garrison (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) for the game-winning as host Washington College was able to thwart a fourth quarter comeback attempt by Skidmore, 16-15, on Sunday afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium. The Shoremen improved to 2-5 with the win, while the Thoroughbreds fall to 8-1.

How It Happened
- Washington, who led 4-2 after one quarter, took a 6-2 lead with 12:24 to go in the second quarter on
Jason Skidmore goal from
Grant Matthews.
- The Thoroughbreds would score three of the next four goals to cut the lead to 7-5 with 5:08 to go in the second on a
Matthew Pinckney.
- Garrison would score on a behind the back shot with 3:49 left in the second from
Jack Dupuis to make it 8-5 for the home side and that would be the halftime score.
- After
Tim Blue scored from
Jimmy Gibbons 1:55 into the third quarter for Skidmore to cut the lead to 8-6, the Shoremen scored five straight times to take a 13-6 with 3:03 left in the stanza on a
Ben Dickinson tally. The seven-goal lead was the Shoremen's biggest in the game.
- Skidmore got the last two of the third to trim the lead to 13-8 after three with
Jon Byrne notching an unassisted goal with 1:03 left to cut it to five.

Tom Merritt scored from Matthews 13 seconds into the fourth quarter to make it 14-8 before the Thoroughbreds would score three unanswered goals to trim it to 14-11 with on a Brian Gonsalves unassisted tally.
- Carrigan scored from Garrison to stop the run with 8:12 left to push give the Shoremen a 15-11 advantage.
- Skidmore would restart its run 64 seconds later as Charlie Kessler scored from
Jack Doherty to trim it 15-12 and started a streak of four unanswered goals by the road team that culminated in a
Brian Gonsalves goal with 3:48 to go.
- The Thoroughbreds took the next three shots with one on target as Blue's shot was stopped by Shoremen goalie
Colin Gray with 2:22 to go.
- Washington would draw a 30-second Skidmore penalty with 1:18 to go and got a man-up situation for. Carrigan received a pass from Garrison and put the winning shot into the upper left corner for a man-up tally. The penalty had expired, but Skidmore had not gotten back to even in its defensive zone so the goal is considered a man-up score.
- Skidmore won the ensuing face-off and had one more chance to tie it, but Gray stopped the shot by
David Koffler with 32 ticks remaining and the Shoremen were able to run out the clock after
Tyler Bishop got the ground ball off the save.

Gabe Velasquez went 13-for-27 in face-offs and scooped up a contest-high 10 ground balls, while
Owen Boone was 5-for-8 at the X. The Shorewomen won 18 of the game's 35 face-offs.
- Washington was 17-for-21 in clears in the contest, held a 43-31 advantage in ground balls and was 2-for-4 on the man-up.
- The Shoremen had 22 turnovers, while causing 12 Skidmore turnovers.

- The Thoroughbreds were 18-for-20 in clears, 0-for-2 in man-up situations and turned it over 22 times, while notching eight caused turnovers.
- Skidmore held a 44-36 edge in shots.
Notes
- Carrigan was named the Goose Nation TV Shoreman Player of the Game.
- It was the third all-time meeting between the Shoremen and Thoroughbreds and WC now leads 3-0. Washington won in 2001 (18-11) and in 2004 (11-4) prior to today. All three meetings have taken place in Chestertown.
- The 1984 team that reached the Division III National Championship Game was honored at halftime.
