Mules Finish Strong to Overtake Shoremen, 17-10

Charvala Tallies 15 Stops to Post Career-Best

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Muhlenberg scored four goals in the final 1:11 of the third quarter to turn a 9-7 deficit into an 11-9 lead entering the fourth to come away with a 17-10 win over host Washington College in a Centennial Conference men's lacrosse game on Saturday afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.  The Mules improved to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in the Centennial, while the Shoremen are now 3-7 and 1-2 respectively.

How It Happened
- Tied a 2-2, Washington scored the last two goals of the opening quarter to take a 4-2 lead after one with Ben Dickinson scoring unassisted with 3:58 to go in the stanza.
- Connor Garrison would give the Shoremen a 6-3 advantage to cap a 4-1 run with 9:53 to go in the second quarter from Grant Matthews just 49 seconds after Matthews found Cory Morgan for a goal.   
- Cam Carrigan gave the home side an 8-5 lead after halftime on a score with 16 seconds left.
- In the third, Garrison gave WC a 9-6 lead with 7:02 to go on a man-up tally from Matthews.
- Chase Kusko scored unassisted with 3:58 to go in the third to cut the lead to 9-7 as it started the game-closing run of 11 out of 12 goals for the Mules.    
- Daniel Friedel netted an unassisted score with 1:11 left in the third to cut the lead to 9-8 and started a stretch of four scores in the last 71 ticks.  Reed Thompson would tie it at 9-9 with 47 seconds remaining on a pass from Ryan May and Jack Bill would put the visitors ahead for the first time, 10-9, with only 12 ticks to go on a feed from Kusko.  Matthew Hochegger would finish the stretch with just a second to go in the third unassisted to give the Mules an 11-9 lead heading into the fourth.
- WC would get the opening score of the fourth quarter 80 seconds in on a Dickinson score from Morgan to trim the lead to 11-10.
- It's as close as the Shoremen would get as Muhlenberg would score the game's final six goals starting with a Bill goal from Jack Taub 1:28 later.

For The Shoremen (3-7, 1-2 CC)
- Scoring: Garrison (three goals and assist), Carrigan (two goals and two assists), Matthews (three assists), Morgan (two goals and helper), Dickinson (two goals)
- In Goal: Will Charvala (60:00, 17 goals allowed, 15 saves to set career-high)
- Gabe Velasquez (five ground balls).
- Washington was 12-for-15 in clears in the contest and was 1-for-4 on the man-up.
- The Shoremen had 12 turnovers, while causing five Muhlenberg turnovers.

For Muhlenberg (4-7, 1-2 CC)
- Scoring: May (game-best five points on two goals and three assists), Wyatt Malia (contest-high four goals), Kusko (two goals and assist), Bill (two goals), Hochegger (goal and assist)
- In Goal: Stephen Krug (59:07, 10 goals allowed, 10 saves), Max Kunnath (0:53, zero goals allowed, zero saves)
- Michael Drago (8-for-12 at the X), Griffin Minuto (9-for-16 on face-offs) and Luke Schwartzberg (game-best six ground balls).
- The Mules were 12-for-13 in clears, 1-for-4 in man-up situations and turned it over 13 times, while notching six caused turnovers.
- Muhlenberg held a 47-32 advantage in shots and 39-26 in ground balls.

- Garrison was named the Goose Nation TV Shoreman Player of the Game.
