The coxswain and eight rowers from the first varsity eight of the men's rowing team's share this week's Shoreman of the Week. The first varsity eight won its race at the Battle at Brigantine on Saturday on the Bonita Tideway in Brigantine, N.J..
The boat won its race in 6:05.10, 9.91 seconds better than second place Villanova in the 2000-meter race. The win helped Washington College win the Overall Team Trophy with the women's rowing team.
The varsity eight boat consisted of junior coxswain Patrick Beene (Burke, Va./Lake Brddock), freshman rower Sam Abromavage, senior rower Eli Bisco-Werner (Bordentown, N.J./home school), senior rower Garrett Cole (Millington, Md./Queen Anne's County), sophomore rower Andrew Ellestad (Damascus, Md./Damascus), junior rower Nick Gardner (Orlando, Fla./home school), junior rower Noah Gentry (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood), freshman rower Marcos Gonzalez and senior rower Emmett Wurster (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox).
Cole and Wurster have received Shoreman of the Week honors five times, Gentry is now a four-time recipient of the weekly award, Beene has garnered the recognition on three occasions, Ellestad gained Shoremen of the Week honors for the second time, while Abromavage, Bisco-Werner, Gardner and Gonzalez earned the weekly honor for the first time.
