Baseball Bypasses Diplomats In Seven, 12-2

Lancaster, PA  – Shoremen take down Franklin & Marshall in seven innings Tuesday afternoon 12-2.

Washington College 12 Haverford 2 - 7 innings

How It Happened
  • Drew Kinsey set the tone for the Shoremen as he tallied the first hit and run for Washington.  His homerun to left field in his first at bat of the game in the top of the second inning put the Shoremen on the board 1-0.
  • F&M had an answer in the bottom of the second after two hits earned them a run.
  • The first batter in the top of the third for the Shoremen, Nick Miller, was walked, Will Turner was hit by a pitch, and then Kinsey was intentionally walked to put three Shoremen on base for the perfect scoring opportunity. Zach Stolze hit a single through the left side and earned 2 RBI as Turner and Miller scored. The Shoremen went up 3-1.
  • The Diplomats had a double and single in the bottom of the fifth to put runners on. A sacrifice fly for F&M lessened the Shoremen's lead 3-2.
  • Two pitching changes in the top of the sixth for the Diplomats were no use as a Reese Hirsh sacrifice fly allowed Kinsey to score after he and Stolze were walked earlier in the inning. Back to back doubles by Ty Everitt and Turner earned two runs each as the Shoremen forced another pitching change in the sixth as they extended their lead 8-2. The third double of the half inning came from Logan Yi as he advanced Turner to home and the Shoremen went up seven.
  • Chase Ruppel started the next inning off with a homer to left field. The Shoremen scored two more unearned runs in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to ten.
  • The Diplomats had no answer in the bottom of the seventh. Their only hit in that half inning was a single to first, but a fielder's choice and fly out to center field by the Shoremen defense halted F&M's efforts at a comeback. The game was over in the bottom of the seventh due to a conference 10 run rule. The Shoremen ended the day on top 12-2.
