Diplomats Take Both from Shorewomen, 8-3 and 8-7

Cook Socks Three-Run Homer in Game Two

LANCASTER, Pa. – Host Franklin & Marshall took both ends of a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader against visiting Washington College on Tuesday afternoon at Baker Campus Softball Field.  The Diplomats grabbed game one, 8-3, and edged the Shorewomen in the second game, 8-7.  The Diplomats improve 11-17 overall on the season and 3-5 in the Centennial, while Shorewomen are now 18-13-1 and 9-3 respectively.

Franklin & Marshall 8 Washington College 3 (Game 1)

How It Happened
- Lilly Cook scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the top of the second inning to give Washington a 1-0 lead.
- In the last of the second, F&M took advantage of a two-out error to score four unearned runs.  Maddy Yeingst and Madison Martin scored on the error to give the Diplomats a 2-1 lead.  Claire Sullivan would then deliver a two-run single to center to plate Jaden Spinger and Natalie Garza to give the home side a three-run lead.
- With nobody out in the bottom of the third, Kaitlin Herrick hit a sacrifice fly to center to plate Yeingst to give F&M a 5-1 lead.
- In the top of the fifth with two away, Julia Weglarz came home on a one out sacrifice fly to left by Jenna Harper to cut the lead to 5-2.
- The Diplomats would respond with two runs in their half of the fifth before an out was recorded to push the lead to 7-2.  Sophia Noreiga scored on an error for the first run and Yeingst came home on a double steal to give F&M a five-run lead.
- Garza would score on a one-out double to left by Alexa Klepper to give the home team a 8-2 advantage.
- The Shorewomen's Chloe Trefz scored on a two-out error in the top of the seventh to provide the final margin.

For The Shorewomen (18-12-1, 9-2 CC)
- Hitting: Harper (1-for-3, RBI), Hannah Solge (1-for-2, walk)
- Pitching: Lexi Barnhart (loss 7-6, complete game, five hits, eight runs, two earned, seven walks, six strikeouts)
- Washington committed two errors in game one, leading to six F&M runs.
- The Shorewomen had two hits and drew seven walks in the game, while leaving nine on base.

For Franklin & Marshall (10-17, 2-5 CC)
- Hitting: Yeingst (three walks and three runs), Sullivan (1-for-2, two RBI, walk), Martin (2-for-3, run), Garza (1-for-3, walk, two runs)
- Pitching: Charlotte Dwyer (win 1-4, six innings, two hits, three runs, one earned, five walks, four strikeouts)
- Franklin & Marshall committed three errors in the opener, leading to two WC runs.
- The Diplomats had five hits and worked out seven walks, while stranding six on base.

Notes
- Just four of the 11 runs in the opener were earned runs.

Franklin & Marshall 8 Washington College 7 (Game 2)

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen got an unearned run in the top of the second as Gracelyn Goforth scored on a two-our error by the Diplomats.
- F&M would tie it in the bottom of the second on a Noreiga leadoff homer and would take a 2-1 lead on a Megan Wiarda double to left chased in Martin with two outs.
- Klepper would plate Garza on a sacrifice fly to right with one away to give the home side a two-run lead.
- The 3-1 lead would hold up until the top of the fifth when Washington scored five times to take a 6-3 advantage.  Navaeh Unzueta led off the frame with a triple to center and came home on a sacrifice by Shannon Rosche for the first run.  With two outs, Lilly Wenzel singled up the middle to drive home Julia Guzman to tie it at 3-3.  After a Harper double placed runners on second and third, Cook would break the tie on a three-run long ball over the left field fence to cap the five-run outburst.
- In its half of the fifth, F&M would answer with a five-spot of its own to retake the advantage, 8-6.  With one away, Klepper doubled to right to send in Wiarda and Garza and it was a one-run game.  After a pop out for the second out, Yeingst would launch a three-run homer of her own to left as Sullivan and Klepper scored ahead of Yeingst to cap the five-run frame.
- Maddy Kendall would trim the lead back to a single run, 8-7, on a one-out RBI groundout off the bat of Trefz.
- Harper would reach on a one-out single up the middle and got the go ahead run at the plate for WC, but F&M was able to close it on a fly out and line out respectively.

For The Shorewomen (18-13-1, 9-3 CC)
- Hitting: Cook (2-for-4, three RBI, run, home run), Harper (2-for-4, run), Goforth (2-for-3),
- Pitching: Brynn Balliet (loss 8-5, complete game, 10 hits, eight runs, eight earned, zero walks, three strikeouts)
- The Shorewomen had nine hits in the game and drew zero walks as they left four on base.
- WC had one error in the field, but did not lead to an F&M run.

For Franklin & Marshall (11-17, 3-5 CC)
- Hitting: Wiarda (2-for-3, run, RBI), Garza (2-for-4, two runs), Klepper (1-for-2, three RBI, run), Yiengst (1-for-3, three RBI, home run, run), Martin (2-for-3, run)
- Pitching: Kayla Kilmer (loss 4-6, complete game, nine hits, six runs, four earned, six walks, nine strikeouts)
- The Diplomats had 10 hits and did not work out a walk as they left two on base.
- Franklin & Marshall committed two errors in the field, leading to two unearned runs.

Notes
- Harper extended her hitting streak to 10 games with three total hits in the twinbill.  The sophomore has a .500 average (18-for-36) during the streak.
- F&M's Catie Kozub is the sister of Washington's Gen Kozub.
