Softball Splits With Gettysburg

Chestertown, MD – Softball splits with Gettysburg 6-2 and 6-1 on Senior Day Saturday afternoon. 

Game 1: Washington College 2 Gettysburg 6

How It Happened
  • The Shorewomen trailed the Bullets 2-0 until the bottom of the fourth. 
  • Jenna Harper started the inning off with a double to left field. Lexi Barnhart singled to the shortstop to put her on base and advance Harper to third. Harper scored as Gracelyn Goforth grounded out to the pitcher.
  • The next at bat, Nevaeh Unzueta reached base on an overthrown ball to the first baseman, this error also allowed Guzman to score, who was pinch running for Barnhart. The third run of the inning for the Shorewomen came as Maddy Kendall singled to right field allowing Unzueta to run home. 
  • Washington would put the game away in the bottom of the sixth scoring three runs on three hits. Shannon Rosche's single to center field was followed directly by a Lilly Wenzel single to second which allowed Rosche to advance to third. Hannah Solge was walked and Julia Weglarz reached base on a fielder's choice to the first baseman. Rosche scored on an overthrow home from the first baseman. Wenzel scored as bases were loaded and Harper was walked. And the final run scored for the Shorewomen as Lilly Cook singled to left field which sent Solge home. 
  • The Shorewomen passed the Bullets in game one 6-2.

Hitting: Jenna Harper ( 1 for 3, 1 double, 1 RBI), Hannah Solge ( 2 for 2, 1 double)
Pitching: Lexi Barnhart ( win 8-6, 7 innings pitched, 7 strikeouts)

For Gettysburg  (19-10)
Hitting: J. Smith ( 1 for 3)
Pitching: P. Forry ( loss 8-4, 5.1 innings pitched, 5 strikeouts)

How It Happened
  • The Shorewomen fell 2-0 to the Bullets in the top of the fifth inning. The Shorewomen gave up one run in the top of the sixth to extend their deficit to three. 
  • The first and only score for Washington came in the bottom of the sixth. Hannah Solge was walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Lilly Cook singled to center field to send her home. Goforth grounded out to end the inning for the Shorewomen leaving two players on base. 
  • The Shorewomen gave up three runs in the top of the seventh and could not climb out of the deficit. They fell to Gettysburg in Game 2 6-1.
