Shoremen Back in CC Tournament After 18-14 Victory over #20 Gettysburg

Teams Will Play in First Round of Conference Tournament in Chestertown

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College topped visiting #20 Gettysburg 18-14 on Saturday afternoon at Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium to clinch a spot in the Centennial Conference Tournament for the first time since 2015.  The Shoremen, who cap the regular season at 6-10 overall and 4-4 in the Centennial, clinched their spot when #6 Swarthmore topped Haverford, 17-7.  The Bullets finish their regular season at 8-7 overall and 4-4 in the conference will return to Chestertown on Tuesday for the conference tournament first round game as the five seed.  Game time will be announced on Monday.

How It Happened
- Washington led 5-4 before scoring twice in the final minute of the first quarter to lead 7-4 after one.  Cam Carrigan scored with 46 seconds left in the quarter and Ben Dickinson netted a score with 3.6 seconds to go.
- Gettysburg would score the first three goals of the second quarter to tie the game at 7-7 with 11:37 to go before halftime on a Quinton Mather goal from Stokes Myers.
- The Shoremen would score three of the final four goals to lead 10-8 at halftime with Luke Brennan scoring from Carrigan with 31 seconds before the break to put the home side up two.
- In the third quarter, the Shoremen outscored the Bullets 4-1 to take a 14-9 advantage heading into the fourth.  Trevor Ivatts scored with 3:22 left to give the home standing squad a five-goal cushion heading into the last stanza.
- Parker Barta would give the Shoremen their biggest lead of the game, 17-11, with 6:57 to go in the fourth.
- The Bullets scored three of the last four goals to provide the final margin.

- Scoring: Carrigan (three goals and three assists for game-high six points), Dickinson (three goals and two assists), Brennan (two goals and three assists), Morgan (three goals and assist), Reeve Hargrave and Dylan Kilroy (two goals)
- In Goal: Will Charvala (60:00, 14 goals allowed, 16 saves)
- Jack Winters (four ground balls and two caused turnovers), Patrick Rodgers (four ground balls)
- Washington was 20-for-25 in clears in the contest and 0-for-2 in man-up situations.
- Washington had 16 turnovers, while causing five Gettysburg turnovers.

- Scoring: Myers (three goals and assist), Jack Dunleavy, Jackson Heard and Ethan Kessler (two goals and two assists), Mather (two goals), Charlie Johnson (two assists)
- In Goal: Chase Morgan (43:19, 14 goals allowed, five saves), Muprhy Hoey (16:41, four goals allowed, three saves)  
- Michael Voehringer (25-for-35 at the X and game-high 16 ground balls), Frank Barbera (two caused turnovers)
- The Bullets were 15-for-17 in clears, 1-for-3 in man-up situations and turned it over 19 times, while notching eight caused turnovers.
- Gettysburg held a 56-39 advantage in shots and held a 44-36 edge in ground balls.
- The guests went 25-for-35 at the X for the contest.

Notes
- Charvala was named Goose Nation TV Shoremen Player of the Game.
- Washington is in the conference tournament for the 14th time in program history as the tournament started in 2001.  The last time the Shoremen made the tournament was in 2015.
- It was the first win for WC over Gettysburg since a 20-7 win in the semifinal round of the 2014 conference tournament in Chestertown.  The Bullets had won the prior nine encounters.
- Today was the first time since February 25, 2017 that the Shoremen beat ranked team.  In 2017, the team beat #15 Washington and Lee, 11-9.
- This afternoon was Military Appreciation Day as a big flag was unfurled at halftime to honor veterans.
- The team honored its seniors – Ivatts, Kilroy, Tyler Bishop, Connor Garrison, Mac Hale, Tom Merritt, Michael Nickerson, Grant Thomas and Gabe Velasquez – prior to the game.

- Teams are meeting for the 12th time in the conference tournament.
- The winner of the game will travel to top seed Swarthmore on Thursday in the semifinal round.  The other semifinal is third seeded Muhlenberg and second seeded Dickinson.
