Softball Secures Top Seed In Conference Tournament With Split With Dickinson

Carlisle, PA – Shorewomen split with Dickinson and secure top seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament. 

Game 1: Washington College 1 Dickinson 3
How It Happened
  • Dickinson scored their first and last run in the bottom of the first. Two doubles led to three runs scored.
  • Washington scored their first and only run in the top of the seventh. Mia Mavoides singled to left field and then advanced to second as Hannah Solge was picked off after she singled the at bat earlier. 
  • A Lilly Cook single to up the middle allowed Mavoides to score. Lilly Wenzel was able to reach first on an error , but was left on base as a fly out ended the inning and the game for the Shorewomen as they were topped 3-1. 

For The Shoremen (19-16-1)
Hitting: Jenna Harper ( 1 for 3, 1 double), Lilly Cook ( 2 for 3, 1 RBI) 
Pitching: Lexi Barnhart ( loss 8-8, 6.0 innings pitched, 3 strikeouts)

For Dickinson (10-19)
Hitting: Z.Kleebatt ( 1 for 3, 2 RBI, 1 double)
Pitching: A.Kohan (win 5-6, 7.0 innings pitched, 4 strikeouts)

How It Happened
  • The first score for the Shorewomen came in the top of the first inning. Julia Weglarz reached base on an error. Lilly Cook hit the unearned run in off a single to put Washington up 1-0. 
  • The Shorewomen scored five runs off of four hits in the top of the fourth. Cook started the inning off with a triple to right center field. Gracelyn Goforth singled two at bats later to send Cook home. The second triple of the inning came from Nevaeh Unzueta as she allowed Goforth and Shannon Rosche to score as Rosche doubled down the left field line the at bat  before. 
  • Chloe Trefz sent Unzueta home as she singled to right field and sent Washington up 5-1. 
  • Julia Weglarz doubled up the middle to start the fifth inning. She was batted in by Lilly Wenzel as she singled to the shortstop. 
  • Dickinson scored in the bottom of the sixth off a two run single through the right side. 
  • Weglarz led off with another big hit in the top of the seventh, a triple to right center. She would be the last player to be batted in after a Jenna Harper sacrifice fly sent her home. Dickinson would have no answer and would be defeated by the Shorewomen 7-3.

Hitting: Julia Weglarz (2 for 4, 1 double, 1 triple),Nevaeh Unzueta (2 for 3, 2 RBI, 1 triple)
Pitching: Brynn Balliet ( win 10-7, 7.0 innings pitched, 1 strikeout)

For Dickinson (10-20)
Hitting: J. Sandusky ( 2 for 3, 2 RBI)
Pitching: E. Mcmahon ( loss 3-7, 3.2 innings pitched, 1 strikeout)

The Shorewomen advance to the Centennial Conference playoffs. They will play Wednesday May 1st, opponent and location is to be announced.
