CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Muhlenberg, the four seed, scored five times in the top of the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie on its to an 11-2 win over top seeded Washington College on Thursday afternoon at Washington College Softball Field in the Centennial Conference Tournament. The Mules, who will play third seeded Gettysburg on Saturday in the second game, are 25-14 on the season, while the Shorewomen, who will play second seeded Swarthmore in an elimination game at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

How It Happened
- Washington got runners on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the second and fourth innings but could not break onto the scoreboard in either frame.
- Muhlenberg would finally break the tie with a five-run top of the fifth.Â
Sophia Cicchetti put the Mules ahead 1-0 on a double to left-center to score Jane Banahan with one away. The next hitter,
Kaya Mahy singled to right to chase in
Peri Kahn to make a two-run lead. After a Mahy stolen base put runners at second and third,
Scooter Hulsen delivered a two-run base hit to left-center to deliver both Cicchetti and Mahy home to give the road side a 4-0 lead.Â
Lillie Teague would cap the frame with single up the middle that score Hulsen.Â
- A one out sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth by Hulsen chase in Kahn to give Muhlenberg a 6-0 advantage.
- The Shorewomen broke onto the scoreboard in the last of the sixth on a one-out two-run home run to left-center by
Lilly Wenzel to trim the lead to 6-2.Â
Gracelyn Goforth would follow up with a base hit to left-center, but would be left stranded as the next two hitters were retired by Mules' pitcher
Justine Bergara.
- The Mules would put the game away with a five-run top of the seventh that was capped by a Mahy grand slam to right-center with one away to make it 11-2.
For The Shorewomen (20-18-1)
- Hitting: Wenzel (1-for-2, walk, home run, two RBI), Goforth (2-for-3)
- Pitching:
Lexi Barnhart (loss 8-9, six innings, 11 hits, six runs, six earned, two walks, two strikeouts)
- Washington committed zero errors in game one.
- The Shorewomen had five hits and drew three walks in the game, while leaving eight on base.
For Muhlenberg (25-14)

- Muhlenberg had three errors in the opener, leading to zero runs for WC.
- The Mules had 13 hits, had one get on by a hit by pitch and drew five walks, while stranding eight on base.

- Washington is competing in its 10th tournament and the top seed for the second time, as it was the one seed in 2016.
- In the other conference tournament game today, Gettysburg won at Swarthmore 4-1.
