Freshman women's lacrosse player
Valerie Rock (West Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) is this week's Shorewoman of the Week honor. Rock totaled five points on three goals and two assists in her first two career starts in helping the Shorewomen clinch their 12th straight trip to the Centennial Conference Tournament.
Rock handed out two assists in Washington College's 12-9 win over visiting Swarthmore on Wednesday night in her first career start for her first multi-assist and point performance, including notching the helper on the eventual game-winning goal by
Mia Salvatierra with 5:58 to go in the third that made it 10-4. The win secured a spot in the conference tournament as the team extended its consecutive record for any WC program that must qualify for the Centennial Tournament. On Saturday in an 18-14 victory at McDaniel in her second career start, the freshman netted three goals as the Shorewomen locked up the five seed in the upcoming tournament. Rock scored what proved to be the game-winning goal 58 seconds into the fourth quarter that put WC ahead 15-12 on her third and final tally. She put Washington ahead for the rest of the game with 1:59 remaining in the third quarter on a feed from Salvatierra to put the Shorewomen up 13-12.
This is Rock's first career Shorewoman of the Week honor.
