Chestertown, MD – Baseball's comeback falls short as they give up nine runs in the top of the ninth to fall to Haverford 17-7 Tuesday afternoon.
Washington College 7 Haverford 17
How It Happened
- The Fords scored first in the top of the first inning as their second batter of the game homered to center left field.
- The Shoremen were able to tie it up in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a Nick Miller walk and a stolen base that put him in perfect scoring position as a Tahir Parker single batted him in.
- Haverford pulled away in the top of the fifth scoring five runs off of four hits. The Fords led 6-1 going into the bottom of the fifth.
- The Shoremen were able to come within one of the Fords in the bottom of the fifth. A Drew Kinsey single to the shortstop allowed Ty Everitt to score as he was walked at the beginning of the inning. Zach Stolze's three run homer one at bat later brought the Shoremen within striking distance.
- Haverford would have the next score in the top of the eighth. They scored two runs on two hits and put themselves up 8-5.
- Stolze doubled to left field to start the bottom of the eighth for the Shoremen, he was then batted in by a Parker sacrifice fly to left field. The Shoremen were once again within striking distance, this time heading into the ninth 8-6.
- The Shoremen let up nine runs on four hits in the top of the fourth. They were only able to score once more in the bottom of the seventh as Luke Herz doubled to center field allowing Andrew Wegner to score. The Shoremen were topped 17-7.
