CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College swept a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader from visiting McDaniel on Tuesday afternoon at Washington College Softball Field. The Shorewomen took game one 3-2 and registered a 9-4 win in the second contest. In the second game, senior
Lexi Barnhart (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) became the 29th player in team history to reach 100 all-time hits. The Shorewomen are 15-10-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference, while the Green Terror are 10-14 overall and 2-4 in the Centennial.
Washington College 3 McDaniel 2 (Game 1)
How It Happened
- Washington scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Chloe Trefz worked out a bases loaded walk with one away to force in
Lexi Barnhart and with two outs,
Julia Weglarz singled up the middle to score
Navaeh Unzueta and Trefz
- McDaniel got a leadoff home run to center in the top of the third by
Mandy Butz and would load the bases with nobody out. However two force outs at home plate and a groundout kept the score at 3-1.
- With two outs in the top of the sixth,
Makayla Calamita doubled to the gap right-center field to score Butz to cut the lead to 3-2, but Calamita would remain stranded at second.
- Barnhart would retire the Green Terror in order in the seventh to give the Shorewomen the win.
For The Shorewomen (14-10-1, 5-0 CC)
- Hitting: Weglarz (2-for-3, two RBI), Unzueta (2-for-2, run),
Gracelyn Goforth (2-for-3)
- Pitching: Barnhart (win 6-5, complete game, nine hits, two runs, two earned, four walks, five strikeouts)
- Washington committed zero errors in game one.
- The Shorewomen had eight hits and drew three walks in the game, while leaving six on base.
For McDaniel (10-13, 2-3 CC)
- Hitting: Butz (2-for-3, two runs, home run, walk),
Bella Sylvester (2-for-2),
Paytyn Hazleton (2-for-4)
- Pitching:
Hannah Costa (loss 5-4, complete game, eight hits, three runs, three earned, three walk, two strikeouts)
- McDaniel had zero errors in the opener, leading to three runs for WC.
- The Green Terror had nine hits, had one get on by a hit by pitch and drew four walks, while stranding 11 on base.

Washington College 9 McDaniel 4 (Game 2)
How It Happened
- In the bottom half of the second, the Shorewomen scored five times to take a 5-0 lead. Barnhart scored on a
Lilly Cook double to right-center for the game's opening run. Two batters later,
Shannon Rosche singled to center to score Cook to make it 2-0 and the next hitter Trefz singled to center as well to plate Unzueta for a three-run lead before a hitter was retired. With two outs,
Jenna Harper singled down the left field line to drive both Rosche and Trefz to cap the five-run frame.
- McDaniel would get on the board with a two-run top of the third. With one away, Butz doubled down the left field line to score
Jessica Millard for the first run.
Riley Jackson would score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Calamita to cut the lead to three.
- In the bottom of the third, Barnhart got her milestone hit on a single up the middle leading off the inning and pinch ran for by
Julia Guzman. Cook doubled down the left field line to plate
Guzman
to make it 6-2. With two outs,
Maddy Kendall served a double to right-center to plate Cook to extend it to 7-2 and Unzueta scored on a wild pitch to cap the three-run inning to lead 8-2.
- McDaniel would get single runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings, while Washington added one in the bottom of the sixth to provide the final margin.
For The Shorewomen (15-10-1, 6-0 CC)
- Hitting: Barnhart (3-for-3, run, RBI), Cook (2-for-4, two runs, two RBI), Unzueta (two runs), Harper (two RBI)
- Pitching:
Brynn Balliet (win 8-3, five innings, three hits, three runs, three earned, three walks, two strikeouts),
Gen Kozub (two innings, two hits, one run, zero earned, one walk, one strikeout)
- The Shorewomen had 12 hits in the game and drew one walk as they left six on base.
- WC had one error in the field, leading to one unearned run for the visitors.
For McDaniel (10-14, 2-4 CC)

- Pitching: Costa (loss 5-5, 2 2/3 innings, 10 hits, eight runs, eight earned, one walk, zero strikeouts)
- The Green Terror had five hits with the aid of a fours walk as they left five on base.
- McDaniel committed two errors in the field, leading to one run for WC.

- Barnhart, who finished the doubleheader with 101 all-time hits, was named the Goose Nation TV Shoreman Player of the Game.
- WC has won four in a row over McDaniel, the longest streak in the history of the series for the Shorewomen.
