Shorewomen Leave #16 Hornets Stung in OT, 2-1

Esposito Scores Winner 2:40 Into Overtime

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Senior forward Kat Esposito (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) scored the golden goal, her second of the game, 2:40 into overtime from junior midfielder/defender Kendal Thomson (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) to give host Washington College a 2-1 overtime victory over visiting #16 Shenandoah on Tuesday night on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.  The Shorewomen and Hornets are both 2-2 on the season.

Washington College (2-2) 2 #16 Shenandoah (2-2) 1 (OT)

How It Happened
- Early in the second quarter, the Shorewomen were awarded a penalty stroke following a violation by the Hornets in the circle.  Esposito placed the shot into the left side of the cage to give the Shorewomen a 1-0 lead 1:48 into the second.
- The lead would beat short lived as Shenandoah tied it with 10:36 to go in the quarter, just 2:36 after Esposito's first tally, to tie it at 1-1.
- WC had all four shots in the fourth quarter, but could not find the back of the net and the game would go into overtime tied.
- In overtime, Washington had all six shots and were awarded a penalty corner with 7:32 to go in the extra frame.  The initial shot by MaryCate Anson went wide, but Samantha McMahon was able to get the loose ball.  McMahon's pass then found Thomson, who got the initial hit on the ball before Esposito got the final touch and put it into the empty cage for the walk-off score.

For The Shorewomen (2-2)
- Scorer: Esposito (two goals), Thomson (assist)
- Goalkeeper: Charlotte Schurman (2 saves, 1 goal allowed, 62:40)
- Washington had 15 shots and 10 penalty corners in the contest.
- Thomson was named Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the Game.
- It was the second straight year that the Shorewomen have a win over the #16 team in the country.  Last season they downed Ursinus 2-0 on October 7.
