Shorewomen 2-0 This Weekend In Langhorne

Langhorne, PA – Washington College sweeps Cairn and Cetenary 3-0 in both games to end weekend 2-0 in Langhorne. The Shorewomen gave Cairn their first loss of the season.

How It Happened 

  • A four-point run got things started for the Shorewomen in the first set as they went up 5-2. Cairn got within three but a kill by Lyndsey Wessel gave the ball back to the Shorewomen and they followed it up with a four-point run to go up 14-6. Two errors by the Shorewomen gave Cairn their final two points as they trailed 23-17. They followed it up with two errors themselves to seal the set for the Shorewomen 25-17. 
  • The closest set of the day for the Shorewomen started off 4-2 after three kills and an error by Cairn put them on the board. Neither team had more than a two point run until Cairn trailed 16-13. Three kills and a Shorewomen error gave Cairn a four-point run and the lead at 17-16. A  Washington College kill by Allison McKechnie put the Shorewomen within two of ending the set 23-22, but two kills in a row for Cairn put them up one 24-23. A service error gave the serve back to the Shorewomen as the set was tied 24-24. A missed attack put the Shorewomen at 25, but having to win by two Alexis Stubbs served again. An attack error gave the ball back to Cairn and tied it up 25-25. Wessel and Giselle Kleinbussink secured the set win with two kills in a row to end it 27-25. 
  • In the final set, the Shorewomen didn't take the lead until a Cairn attack error put them up 8-7. A Saddic kill from Mary Miller put them up two on Cairn 9-7. The Shorewomen went on a nine-point run to go up ten points on Cairn 22-12. The run was ended on a Shorewomen setting error. Cairn would go on a eight-point run themselves to get within one of the Shorewomen 21-22. Three straight points in a row, kills by Kaysie Lynch, Colette Franck, and Saddic, put the final set away for the Shorewomen as they won the first game of the day.

How It Happened 

  • A kill by Allison McKechnie assisted by Kaysie Lynch gave the Shorewomen the first point of the first set. A kill by Lindsay Saddic put the Shorewomen up 4-1 early. Cetenary battled back and came within one of the Shorewomen until a kill by Giselle Kleinbussink earned the first point of a five-point run for the Shorewomen. They were up 13-7. The rest of the set was back and forth as Cetenary came within eight points at the end of the set, but the Shorewomen were able to put it away on a kill by Lyndsey Wessel from McKechnie. 
  • Cetenary went on two separate runs to start the second set. They were up 6-2 until a Saddic kill finally gave the serve back to the Shorewomen. A kill by Logan Kenny brought the Shorewomen within two, but a Shorewomen service error gave the ball back to Cetenary. The Shorewomen went on a five-point run mid-way through the set to put them back on top 18-14. A final run for the Shorewomen consisted of four straight kills, two Colette Franck kills sandwiched by a McKechnie and Kleinbussink kill. The Shorewomen would put it away off a kill from Wessel curtesy of an assist by Alexis Stubbs.  
  • The Shorewomen took control in the third and final set of the game. Franck put one down off an assist from Gianna Romano to put the Shorewomen on the board. Cetenary earned only 11 point in this set as a six-point run would put the Shorewomen to 25 to end the set and the game.
