Shorewomen Take Fords To Four Sets Before Falling 3-1

Chestertown, MD- The Washington College Volleyball team battled with the Fords of Haverford, winning the third of fourth set, 25-19, 25-19, 25-17, and 25-16.

How It Happened 

  • The Shorewomen trailed 18-13 before calling their second timeout of the set. With Lyndsey Wessel serving, the Shorewomen laid down three straight points, an ace, a block by Emma Shaner and Izzy Diehl and then a kill by Diehl. Haverford was forced to call a timeout. The Shorewomen recorded a service error giving the ball back to the Fords. A kill from Allison McKechnie moved the score to 19-17, Shorewomen trailed by two. A kill and attack error put the Fords up, 21-17. Kills from Gianna Folke and Giselle Kleinbussink were the last two points for the Shorewomen as they fell in the first set, 25-19.  
  • The second set was back and forth with both teams sharing the lead until Haverford began to pull away once the score reached 12-11 in their favor. A service error gave the ball back to the Shorewomen, but they lost the next point and Haverford was able to move the score to 16-12 forcing the Shorewomen to call a timeout. Out of the timeout, the Shorewomen earned two points in a row to move the score to 16-14, they trailed by two. The scoring was back and forth until Haverford led, 21-18. Washington College called a timeout to try and halt momentum. Haverford scored two points out of the timeout to go up, 23-18. Wessel laid down a kill from Alexis Stubbs to move the Shorewomen's score to 19, but Haverford had the answer with a kill and an ace to take the second set, 25-19.  
  • The Shorewomen led in the third set, 17-9 forcing Haverford to call their last timeout. Haverford scored two points in a row out of the timeout, but the Shorewomen had an answer as Folke laid down two kills and Anna Titter served an ace. The score was 20-11 in favor of Washington. Haverford earned the ball back on an attack error, but a service error and an attack from Kleinbussink put the Shorewomen up, 22-12. Haverford scored three in a row forcing the Shorewomen to use their first timeout of the set. McKechnie laid down a kill out of the timeout to put the Shorewomen up, 23-15. A Wessel kill put the Shorewomen up, 24-16 and a service error gave the ball and a point to the Fords, 24-17. Shaner put the final kill down for the Shorewomen as they took set three, 25-17.  
  • Haverford was up, 16-11 in the fourth set. They held the largest lead from any team in the set thus far. A service error gave the ball back to the Shorewomen. Haverford got the ball back and went up six over the Shorewomen, 19-13. A service error gave the Shorewomen their next point, but a recieving error put the Fords up, 20-14. It was 23-14 before Wessel laid down a kill for the Shorewomen followed by an ace to put the Shorewomen in it 23-16. The Fords laid down two kills in a row to take the final set, 25-16.
