Shoremen Struggle Against Swarthmore, 72-47

Chestertown, MD– The Washington College Men's Basketball Team were defeated by the Garnet of Swarthmore 72-47. Precieux Tshibangu led the way for the Shoremen with 11 points.

How It Happened 

  • Precieux Tshibangu opened the scoring for the Shoremen twelve seconds into the game. His three-pointer from Ty Woodland put the Shoremen up 3-0 early.  
  • Ethan Scwantes secured an offensive rebound over a Swarthmore player and put it up for an easy two points as the Shoremen went up 5-2 over Swarthmore. Ryan Lang got involved scoring the next basket for the Shoremen as the Garnet started to creep up on their lead.  
  • Swarthmore went on a 25-9 run to end the half. Tshibangu and Ben Costello each hit a three while Davis Bland and Nicho Simes added in two and one points respectively. The Shoremen trailed 31-16 at the half. 
  • Tshibangu scored the first two points for the Shoremen in the second half as he sank two free throws. Kevin New Jr, a minute later, recorded his first basket of the game. He hit a three-pointer from a Nolan Waldon assist. The Shoremen trailed, 40-21.  
  • The scoring throughout the rest of the second half was almost even with the Shoremen scoring 29 to the Garnet's 32. The Shoremen were led by Woodland and Simes who each added six points in the remaining 15 minutes. The Shoremen were in too big of a deficit after the first half and could not get it done as they fell to Swarthmore, 72-47.
